Lots of polls from you lately...

The UK version by a mile... The US version changed the sequence of songs and added singles and deleted originals from the release, plus it came over a year later.

We've been here before, and my comment is unchanged:

The USA version is the better album due to it's superior track selection but the UK version was released about a year earlier so it is way more cool to have the UK LP if you live in the USA. I have both LPs and the CD release which way way not cool at all.

I stick with my statement in the original thread, that "White Man in Hammersmith Palais" alone makes the US release superior.

That was my take also in original thread, USA version had better additonal songs......like VicAjax said

I wasn't around for the original poll. The UK is my choice. And I heard the US first, tru.

My vote is for the U.K version because I feel it captures the mood of that era very well. I think the U.S version of the album was more like a best of album that gathered all their best songs up to that point in their career. I also feel that the U.S version doesn't flow as well as the U.K version .

I voted for the UK version, but only barely, and only because it works better with Janie Jones as the first track. I like a lot of the U.S. only material more than the U.K. stuff.

Kinda wish they had just released a sprawling 20 song punk album right off the bat.

We had a local store that had a good import section at the time the Clash debuted in the UK. I would generally buy the albums and my brother would generally buy the singles and EPs. Between us, we made a couple cassette tapes for the car with all the early Clash material long before the USA album release. My cassette should really get my vote because that is what I actually played the most. Music collecting use to be much more fun before the arrival of the dreaded compact disc. The USA album is the better way to go between the 2 releases but having everything is the absolute best way to go because none of the early material is crap.

i'm really surprised that the UK version is running away with it so handily. just listening now, and in addition to "Hammersmith Palais," a song like "Complete Control" is just so massively awesome how can one not vote for the US release?

Wasn't gonna vote in this poll, but now I'm in for the US version. For what it's worth…

And I love this bit from "White Man in Hammersmith Palais".

"White youth, black youth
better find another solution
Why not phone up Robin Hood
And ask for some wealth distribution

It shouldn't matter. It's the Clash at their rawest either way.

But the UK version was pretty much a touchstone for the young British working class male's experience of 1977.

RIP J Strummer.
