Nice pair! The price is a little stiff - several pairs have gone for $1,200-$1,500 recently. If you're not hung up on the lettering (and man, does it come off easily) then you can get a pair for listening for much less. I'd rather listen to them than fret over accidentally scraping something off.

A little steep, I think, but quite possibly worth it, depending on who the buyer is. Tough break on getting outbid, Ivan -- maybe you should do some sniping yourself?

At the current exchange rate between the AUD and the USD, those Grados are still around AUD $700 cheaper than our one-and-only Grado distributor wants for the PS1000. We'll be at parity with the USD by years end - interesting times ahead.

A bit expensive I would say, especially for a pair without all the lettering intact.
But then again the HP1 does not come up for sale that often...

considering the number of better sounding headphones on the market. It seems silly to pay that much for a HP1 unless you are buying to collect rather than listen

Its a rare headphone, and a collector's item. Maybe not worth the price to some, but well worth it to collectors. The lettering is not perfect, but it in much better condition than most i have seen. So, I would say that this is a real nice collectors item, and probably a great sounding headphone to boot. It will only appreciate in value over time.

Another interesting point is that the listing mentions Joe Grados offer to personally service the headphones. I wonder what that is about, and how common that is? Very interesting. It also appears to state that Joe does a modification to the headphones to bring it up to current spec (whatever that means), and that Joe allegedly says the results of the modification is "incredible." That is interesting stuff.
