Noob question about ibasso d10

What type of cables would I need if I got this amp? Do they come with it?
The iBasso D10 say:
Quote:
- Comes with power adapter, leather pouch, optical cable, USB cable, warranty card, owner's manual, and opamp rolling kit. (includes AD8656*2, LMH6643*2, Dummy adapter*2)
If you need additional cable(s) depends how you plan to hook it up to the source.

Ok. I'm just connecting it to my ipod classic and my phones so I'm guessing the optical will do that.

No, it won't.

You will need a mini-mini cable for that application, or a LOD.

No, it wont. Cause the iPod Classic do not have optical out, or digital out at all for that matter.
For an iPod you want a Line-Out Dock (LOD) feeding the D10 with analog signal, and hence only use its amplifier part and not the DAC.

Such a cable can be bough many places, like:
Qables | High Quality Custom Made Qables
ALO Audio

There comes also a crappy 3.5mm-3.5mm interconnect cable

the posters above are correct; but I really hope you didnt buy the D10 thinking you would be able to use the DAC with your ipod, you could have got a more powerful amp like the P3+ for the same money and got a superior amp. you will only be able to utilize the DAC from your computer, or a DAP or PCDP with optical digital output. I see this far too often.

or coax. But yeah, no need to get a bigger dac/amp whena smaller amp like the P3+ will sound better from your ipod. The D10's brilliance is its DAC section, the amp section is decent. The P3+ doesn't have a DAC, you don't need one, if ur only gonna use the with ur ipod that is, but its amp is superb.

Well I'm going to be using it on my laptop as well. And I have a LOD on my classic, I forgot to say. I have a mini-to-mini from my airhead so will that work?

does the ibasso d10 daac do 24 bits?????????????
i think my predator only does 16 thru its dac,, still burning it in
also i hear head amps; have very good dac's i currently am looking at their dac/amp for
$999. unless someone else has a better idea or opinion on the matter

anyone here of a portable amp with toslink optical input,, i would buy that in a second!
or ever here of toslink adapter to usb or something similar?????????
Well there are devices that will convert USB to toslink, but you can't convert optical to USB as far as I know. The Firestone FireyeII is a USB->Toslink converter.

There's lots of portable amp/dacs with optical in, but you can't use it as a source for an analog amp, because it needs to be converted. I guess in theory you could use a D10 for this, but it would only work with a player with optical out like the older iRivers.

yeah sure, I just couldnt be bothered going into that to be honest coax is rare for computers unless they already have an upgraded soundcard you sometimes see a mini coax on laptops, but again its rare. coax is more on home gear CDP etc. so I didnt bother going into that.

mini to mini is not LOD, but no you will only be able to use the dac with your laptop out of the gear you have now. and then likely by USB unless it has optical. I reckon buy the P3+ and the new cable dac with WM8740 dac inside. that way you can use the P3+ which has a better amp, with your ipod and LOD (if you have an LOD ) and use the cable dac to hook up to the P3+ from your laptop.

well the dac is a 24 bit dac, but you cannot play 24 bit files via USB (without special firmware or convertors), in fact i'm not sure the codec wil decode 24 bit at all. where are you going to get 24bit files to play portable?? I dare you to tell the difference between well decoded 16 and 24 bit in dead silence; let alone on the move. and what is this 'head amps' ?? I dont think 'headamp' make a high end dac/amp, so it must be something else. a home dac/amp worth a grand is going to sound better than D10, of course it will

errrmmm.... we are reading the same page here arent we?? the D10 has optical, mentioned in the few posts above yours. I dont know why you would want to convert optical to USB what is the point of that?? one medium prone to jitter converted to another prone to jitter by a process that creates jitter

I'm confused. I have a both a line out dock and a mini-to-mini cable. Would that be sufficient for connecting the d10 to my ipod?
Yes it would, Richie. You could connect the LOD to the analog input of the D10, and use the USB for your laptop.
