Vintage SR325 cable questions.

Thread Starter
I have a few questions that I would like to ask about these. Today my SR-325 arrived, in excellent condition. However there are two issues with them. The first was that the pads where literally falling apart into dust! I promptly removed them and any remainder of them off the cloth part. Is there a way to remove anymore particles from inside the hp? I am guessing to get it all out I would have to disassemble them and remove the particles if there are any, but I have no skill at this and I don't want to do that. Another issue is that they work fine but the left side cuts out when the jack is moved around even by a little. The seller stated that the jack needs to be replaced. So my second question is it really the jack that is the problem or is it the entire cable? I can move the cable without moving the jack and it works fine, also is possible to replace the jack without replacing the cable? I want to keep it as close to the original as possible as a collectible. If so would a new Grado 1/4 jack transplant be possible? thanks

Also if anyone has a spare Grado 1/4 jack lying around I would be interested in buying it off someone, or the entire cable and the jack. ( if this is possible solution)

First, look around for how to remove the cups. There is a spoon method which is very easy and that should allow you to get inside of the phones and blow out any dust or debris.

Second, I would do a retermination (buy any old 1/4 stereo plug). That wouldn't hurt. If that's not it, then you can just recable it/have it recabled.

By the way, I don't think you can use Grado 1/4 jacks for DIY.
