So far? DAC, yes. Amp, no.

Thanks Ed. That means I can definitely use the 801 to replace my IMod 4G.

Pre-ordering has been paused for now while Head-Direct tries to get more UK chips. However the good news is that anyone who has already ordered will get the UK chip:

in respond to Dac is better ~ EGA mention in his reply that (apparently he seen the inside)

"PCM1704U(UK) x 2, DF1704E, DIR9001 and PCM2707 is used for HM-801."

which sounds really good judging from people who ask the question that it would be ideal if DF1704 were used and it did

bottom line~ take advantage of your 30 days money back if the order open again at the same price u r getting a bargain than early adopter already!

"I've been trying to figure out what bother me about this thread...

The DAC might be superior on paper, but that's not what matters. There's plenty of people who like systems that blurr the music. They say it sounds more "musical". More precise equipment sounds "clinical".

i understand why you r getting all techincal

put it this way, makes it easier for every one ~ so far no one denied its the best stand alone portable DAP (look forward for AMP3 Vs) on the market !! (apply your argument to any existing consumer line of portable DAP and i m sure they r on level playing field too )

people r just trying to justify the price tag. taken 200 off the tag no one serious about music/audio will say no to it. set aside the lost feeling of what you have already invested in previous rig~ put in your stop loss early as its bear market for all un-modified old player without pairing with portable DAC/AMP.

Is it true that Hifiman headphone out using internal amp module is better than Hifiman connected to RSA Protector via l/o?
