HM-801 vs iMod,

the problem is... what amp u are using with your imod?
I suppose the same amp should be fed by both the 801 and the IMod. Also the same IC is required, right?
if u use same amp, then 801 easily win because it is coax vs line-out

Coax is digital, not analog. That's not a fair comparison. Amps don't accept coax.

I'd be interested to see how a properly amped iMod fares against the HM-801.

There is no way any amp or any vcap with the imod can compare with the 801

the dac is the start of everything and the 801 is much better

Can anyone confirm that 801 is better than IMod 5.5G + Vcap dock? That would be a great news.

one thing for sure is that people who hesitated and take a observer approach is going to wait a while and possibly missed out the superior UK chip plus the price might go up again and which i dont blame them consider how US de-value ~ after all i remember when i order mine the Ex rate was 0.73 to 1 AUD and now is 0.92 to 1 not to mention couple of few Japanese guy pay even more consider stronger Yen now ~

in respond to Dac is better ~ EGA mention in his reply that (apparently he seen the inside)

"PCM1704U(UK) x 2, DF1704E, DIR9001 and PCM2707 is used for HM-801."

which sounds really good judging from people who ask the question that it would be ideal if DF1704 were used and it did

bottom line~ take advantage of your 30 days money back if the order open again at the same price u r getting a bargain than early adopter already!

I've been trying to figure out what bother me about this thread...

The DAC might be superior on paper, but that's not what matters. There's plenty of people who like systems that blurr the music. They say it sounds more "musical". More precise equipment sounds "clinical".

'nuff said

I don't have an iMod, but let's put it this way.

The HM-801 (internal SDHC player) sounds noticeably better than the HeadAmp Pico USB DAC. I'm using the Pico Amp (line in on the original Pico) with both lines outs to keep them on a level playing field.

that means the HM-801 alone has already surpassed PICO dac/amp?

i think also HPA mentioned it sounded close to a desktop setup.
