This reminds me of a very similar experience that I had with my original SR-225 (a few years before the "i" models were introduced). It didn't exactly blow me away, but compared to the SR-60 and SR-80 that I acquired before the SR-225, the SR-225 did everything the SR-60 and SR-80 could, only better. Don't get me wrong; the lesser Grados are fine headphones for their asking prices. But the 225 is where one begins to stray into "Sorry about your wallet" territory, IMHO. Soon after the 225 I acquired better amps and home sources...
