I hope so,
You'd think so, right? Majority is wrong on most things, especially social issues, because most people are, well, dumb, ignorant, apathetic, and uninformed.

It's when the majority break into smaller niche groups based on interest and ability that the intelligence of mankind starts to show.

Getting a bit political there.
Idiocracy was written by the people they were writing about. IMO

Stating the obvious is not political. It is stating the obvious.

Idiocracy was an awful movie, but the premise is spot-on. Mainstream everything is getting dumbed-down for the people that are getting too busy to delve into real issues or thought. Look at the evolving decades of music in the OP. I am not a huge fan of most of it, but even a simpleton knows the writing on the wall. We (the majority) want simple, we want easy, and we want instant. We have no time for complex or intellectual, because that requires thought and effort. The best music will never be popular for that reason, and it is getting worse each decade as the good stuff is there, but it is getting further from the surface.
