Ignoring a decade's worth of music for the sake of autotune is like ignoring classical because you don't like powdered wigs.

well autotune/+10dB clipping are a deal breaker indeed..luckily none of these two happen on "real" music

Ooh snap.

Well, by all means, enjoy your reel-to-reel recordings of dixieland jazz. I have "fake music" to listen to.

maybe you can advise me on some good contemporary music? can't seem to make up my mind.

Considering the thread, I'd spring for Kanye. If there's a "deluxe" version with links to poorly shot youtube videos of live performances, though, I'd spring for that instead/as well.

Perhaps you'd care to return the favor?

Interesting I didn't know contemporary music consisted of two albums.

well, I mostly listen to 70's jazz/deep funk/reggae so I can't be of much help here, I'm afraid

can I buy the Kanye somewhere in mp3? 128kbit if any possible, it'll make the sound easier to my ears I was told.

You clearly misunderstand.

It's not Britney's music that's enthralling, it's following her life through the tabloids that is truly entertaining.

I don't believe that I have any music in my collection that has autotune or similar vocal corrections. If I did discover something with autotune in my collection I'd be very disappointed in that artist.

I don't listen to pop, dance, R&B soul, or other genres where the autotune thing is more likely to be used. It could be used on some of the rock style music I listen to, but I haven't noticed.

I will admit to not being very good at detecting the use of autotune. I tried the samples here: Auto-Tune Abuse in Pop Music 10 Examples. Just listening straight through the first time I didn't notice it on most of the clips. Then listening through again while reading the text that mentions the phrases where it is noticeable I heard more of the affect. But even then some of it went by me. Sometimes it sounds to me like a natural slight vibrato rather than an unnatural warble. I'm also not very good at detecting differences between MP3 and lossless so it's likely my ears are just not that good at picking out the unnatural effects.

I did find the vocals of Uncle Kracker and New Found Glory to be unnatural and rather flat (not flat in pitch, just flat as in no variation) which makes music like that boring and uninteresting to listen to.

haha, that mp3 is terrible!!!

I found it clearly audible, except in the last song where it's not over the top...it's funny how this antares plugin makes them sound like buddhist monks: YouTube - Throat singing

I always figured there was something robotic about Adam Levine's vocals for Maroon 5, but I guess I didn't make the connection because I figured they're a "band."

With the pop examples, again I'm not sure if it's done for effect or not, especially the R&B stuff. Obviously the Dixie Chicks is an example of a group you would think aren't doing it for effect.

**** t pain, rodger troutman "California love.." ya know back In the tupac days. But it was used way before hip hop.

But it can be used creatively, what kanye did was like no other (n what bass) but some r just using it for fun, n a lot sounds like trash. Only people to respect with it r t pain, lil Wayne, kanye, Drake. But its. D.o.a. as jay say

*reads through*.

Keep in mind I wasn't attempting to say it is a "tool" and defend it nor was I trying to say "its the devil" and bash it.

My main interest in this topic comes from the fact that many people here prefer higher quality sound (at least when possible) and I find it interesting because, I'm sure those of you out there with higher quality headphones and higher quality set ups *may* be able to hear it a lot better then someone with that 128 mp3 file.

I am starting to notice more and more difference with my music. (Can't tell if I am just listening for it more now or if my headphones are finally getting really well burned in). But, to my knowledge nothing I listen to alot has excessive autotuning (or tries to use it to fix things.
