HE-5..initial musings - Page 67

Is there any time frame/specs for the newer model that will be less efficient than the K1000?

I barely held off on this model. I will probably buy the higher one asap depending on the price.

You might be, but my wallet's not . I wonder if Fang will make it with a 4-pin XLR standard. If he did... then he'd have to make a balanced version of the EF-5. Yep, my wallet is certainly not ready.

I too, think you should continue selling these individually. These are a qualitative step better than anything in their price range. They deserve the widest exposure possible. Don't change the impedance either. Given the right amp and music, they are competitive with any top tier system. Keep up the good work!
Wha..aaaat? Another model...where, when... how much??? SOLD!!

I'm pretty curious about this myself. What are the differences? Bigger drivers? Thinner diaphram material? If such a beast comes to be and is a signifigant step up from the current HE-5, it will be truely a world class animal.

I'm very interested. I'll bet there are others. Now that our appetites have been whetted, we'd appreciate a little information. Even if it's only of the "teaser" type. Might make a difference whether or not I pursue a top tier Stax system.

I like tube and want a balanced rig, so the MK VI+ is my best choice for amp. But HE-5s are attractive headphones, I am lost now.
The MKVI is a pretty powerful amp. It was designed to run K1000s. There is a switch to change from HD6x0/K70x type headphones to K1000. Getting a balanced cable for the HE-5 is a simple matter.

Actually it is very easy to increase the sensitivity if we use the other way to do the driver (like most orthor did), its sound quality will never reach HE-5 plus a well matched amp.

The future higher model will be even lower sensitivity: less sensitive than K1000.

I'm guessing a highly dampened driver in a closed cup - many vintage orthos improve with an application of a lot of felt behind the driver, held in place with a tight wood cup and only a small hole for air to leak out.

Still, I much prefer the sound of the HE-5 over any stock or modded vintage ortho that I have heard. The old Yamaha YH-1000 are the only ones I still need to hear.

i guess.... the same thickness of diaphram material but larger drivers and has the shape of Stax lambdas or oval like Jade or HE-90 and not dampened too much .Next guess......

X2 I would like to know the answer please as I have the Gilmore Lite ordered and might like to give the HE-5 a try as a compliment to my dynamics.
