Wasn't impedance far less than the 25 ohms it's claimed to be now?

The pair at canjam was a different headphone - this is a new driver with an impedance of 25R as opposed to the original of 4R

..dB

The pair I heard (cetoole's) was at RMAF and he didn't mention anything about clipping. I didn't hear any clipping, either, and I listened louder than him though not outright LOUD, per se.

I'm curious to hear a current production pair since I didn't hear any peak in the treble with cetoole's.

cetoole does have the current production model..
as don put it..that treble spike probably was due to manufacturing Q&A. They are as Fang claims, handmade..so expect some variation ala AKG k1000, Grados, etc

It's a pre-production model since RMAF was before they sold the first batch. It of course has the 25 ohm (I think it was measured at 26 or 27?) drivers.

No its not..it has the traces which are there on the current production ones ..the only other version was the one at RMAF which had no traces and a native impedance of 4 ohms.

Just because they have the same traces doesn't mean they weren't built before the first production batch. And I thought they had the 25 ohmers already at RMAF, it was only at CanJam that the original 4 ohm orthos existed.

Well another way to look at it is they already had built and had them ready to ship..they shipped one direct to Colin before they officially started selling them 3 days after he received them ..So i think its quite possible they are the same ones as the 'production' ones.

Could be. I'm just trying to account for differences in what we heard in our respective HE5s other than the hypothesis of variation between each and every headphone made, which is a bit annoying to keep track of.

Sorry, so to clarify... the one at RMAF might have been a 4 ohm model vs the current production 25 ohm model? This would explain the clipping on my amp (not on the EF-1 Fang was showing with at RMAF - that sounded fine) and Larry's observation that they now sound much better with his ZDT than they did at the show, where the ZDT wasn't up to the task of driving them either.

No....the 4 ohm model was at Canjam not RMAF..

I'm pretty sure even with the 4 ohmers Fang put in a resistor in series as a voltage divider, because even some speaker amps can't handle a 4 ohm load properly. But yeah, you were listening to a ~25 ohm HE5.

Quick question. Those of you who have your he5s, how long did they take to get to you once shipped?
I think it should get to you sometime next week - Fang said he was shipping them out on Tuesday and that they would take 5-7 business days from then to arrive
post #525 of 1668
Wonderful. EMS shipping just always worries me with the "we'll take however long we want to enter your package into tracking" attitude.
