Burn in - on a DAP ??

Burn-in sceptics will have a field day, but thats life. I followed the burn-in regime for the Topaz and it reaped rewards, but that has a little more to it than a couple of PCBs and some firmware (I think there is a photo of the internals in the Topaz review).

I didnt register any changes in any of my other DAPs in the first month or so, but the Classic is (to my ears) pushing more sound from the HP out at lower volumes, and it seems clearer at higher volumes than it was initially. Whether its my ears or the circuitry, something clicked into place. Several have made similar claims about the 3GS iPhone, but is it all placebo ?

End of the day, I may as well just lie back and enjoy it.

I found my 3gs open up after some use. Don't know if it's wishfull thinking or some real life changes.

There's plenty of scientific basis for at least electrolytic capacitors to change as they first get used. Since that's what's usually powering the output stage...

yep, and that would account for the capacitors in the Topaz, but every teardown I've seen of the iPod/iPhone shows nothing more than PCB with an audio codec section dominated by a single chip. I dont know much about electronics, but I havent seen a capacitor anywhere in the photos - happy to hear otherwise.

Integrated circuits are just that--the same old resistors, capacitor, transistors, etc. you see in older equipment, but integrated inside a single package. They're literally etched, spray painted, and otherwise assembled into the thing in layers.
