Head-Direct RE0, up/down grade from v-moda vibe?

I've read a lot of positive reviews of the Head-Direct RE0, and I'm wondering if they sound a LOT better than the v-moda vibes? I listen to metal, rock, progressive, jazz, and some classic.

I only use IEM on my Cowon D2, (jetset setting -5,-5,-3,-3,-3 ftw!) and really like the clear, crisp and wide sound the moda's give... So if the Head-Direct RE0 tops the vibes for 99$, its a buy!

They are light years ahead of the v-modas. The v-modas sound like entry level IEMs and the RE0s are one of the best sounding upper midrange in-ears. And you will most likely need a less hefty EQ setting with the RE0s.

x2 what FrederikS said.. v-moda's are no where near the RE0 in terms of sound quality.

I thought this was a joke from thread title - a parody of all the other RE0 vs. xxxx threads. If you're serious then x3 on the above - the vmodas have no crispness or clarity compared to the RE0s.

I'm dead serious. The vmodas was the sh1t when it came to IEMs for less than 100$ a couple of years back (or so I heard). My experience is limited to Sony MDR-EX85LP, Koss P. Pro, vmodas and Beyer DT 770.. I've tried the Ulti 10 once, which blew my mind, and when I saw the price I purposly forgot about them :P (Still a colleage student..)

So for 100$ the Head-Direct RE0's is king of the hill? I really want a pair of dual drive IEMs, but that'll have to wait until I graduate and get a job.

Thanks for all the replies!

If clarity and crispness are top priority then the RE0 are unbeatable IMO. If you're looking for huge amounts of bass (as your name might suggest), look elsewhere. Also, if you want some dual-drivers, pick up the apple DD's off ebay for $30.

Coming from the Vibe to the RE0, I preferred the Vibe.

The RE0 is a significant change from the Vibe. I may like it. You may be put off by it. I don't know.

From an unbiased standpoint, the RE0 is significantly better then the Vibe, but I will say the Vibe while not great in several areas is a darn fun earphone to listen to.

Suggestions on the RE0. There will be some burn in time being a dynamic. There will be some importance on tip choice in order to get a good seal and decent bass. The RE0 needs an amp, a robust amp. A weak amp will be limited. It's 64ohm and only 100dB sensitivity. It will take some wattage to really pelt out the sound with more effortless dynamics. I think it still comes with the E3 which is ok as something, but you might want to invest it something more substantial. I tried out the RE0 a year ago and had the E3 and E5. I question if they are adequate for the earphone and have noticed limitations with a couple other earphones I've used too.

Some quotes about amping with the RE0:

The Icon Mobile, as far as I know, doesn't do either of those as well as a T4, so I personally wouldn't bother. I think mark (mark2410) owns both an Icon and the RE0s, so you could ask him. For me, the mini3 was the cheapest amp that actually made a difference, but that thing can crank out a good amount of power compared to the ultraportable amps.

To put it in another way. (Please keep in mind, I am sort of a audiophile noob)
The RE0 aren't particularly easy to drive, even more difficult is to make them sound "dynamically". The MP3 player alone isn't up to this job, and this is were the (for example) the FiiO comes in (I have it set to BASS BOOST off, and even so it gives them the low. For me personally, they don't lack bass if you give them the juice. Their treble is just to irresistible for me to give up.

It could be a little warmer, but with a slight equalization (+2/3 db on the low end) i can fully enjoy every kind of music!

To my ears it seems that RE0 is much better when amped, expecially soundstage is wider and the mids are more natural sounding.
Actually my portable amp is a Meier Audio Corda 2Move and i like how it sounds coupled with the RE0.

I'm using Shure black foams, mounted on the plastic inner part of a comply foam; isolation and comfort are much better than silicon, and sound becomes a little bit smoother, sweeter; the bass is also improved :

Imho at the actual discounted price, this iem is a steal.

It really sounds very very good, i can compare their sound quality with my old SE530.
Another thing i have to say is that i use them with Shure black foams mounted on the inner plastic of Comply foam; this improves isolation and bass response.

i don't know if agree.. certaintly, amping improves the re0 but i don't think it really needs one. imo, it sounds fine unamped, but it definitely does improve with an amp. that being said, if you can afford to get a decent amp or already have one, the re0 will sound even better as the above post quotes.
