Best Metal Albums of 2009?

Thread Starter
I'm just listening to Amorphis - Skyforger and it's a pretty refreshing listen! I'm really impressed. I haven't been paying much attention to releases these past couple of years, so any suggestions of your favorites would be appreciated whether it be doom, black, death, thrash etc. As long as its not really folkish like Tyr or Korplikaani, I can't seem to get into that kind of stuff.

curious what people think of Blood Ceremony? Jex Thoth? some of these bands that, I'd call metal. but I'm totally not a metal-head and realize these bands harken back to the Sabbath-type of 70's stoner metal but probably turn some of the real metal lovers off. Dig it? not?

Devin Townsend - Ki (my fave thus far)

I've bought the new Mastodon, Porcupine Tree, Megadeth, Dream Theater and a few others but they've yet to grab me.

I'm quite sure Devin's next album (due in Nov) will be the best album of the last five years... maybe the decade.

I think Megadeth's "Endgame" is really good.

Weapon - Drakonian Paradigm
Tribulation - The Horror
Exivious - Exivious
Ulcerate - Everything Is Fire

The Chasm - Farseeing The Paranormal Abysm
Altar of Plagues - White Tomb

The Few Against Many - Sot

Wrath - Lamb Of God
Deflotrate - The Black Dahlia Murder
Self Titled - Killswitch Engage
Dethalbum II - Dethklok

Only 'metal' albums I have from '09 and they aren't bad at all.
(Although KSE needs to grow a bit more TBH).

Black Pyramid S/T
Anaal Nathrakh - In The Constellation of the Black Widow

There are others but those are the first to come to mind

Lamb of God - Wrath was good, but only few truely killer tracks to me. I´ll probably need to say Megadeth - Endgame so far. It has actually no bad tracks, to me it´s their best since Rust In Peace.

Thy Catafalque - Róka Hasa Rádió

Haven't properly listened to Megadeth yet, but this is the only metal album that's managed to hold my attention at all this year.
