It was in the Headroom sale that was advertised in the Headphone forum section of this site. Just had to mention head-fi.org offer and provide your head-fi userid.

It was indeed a great price. In the UK the ER-4Ps cost the equivalent of $400!

ER-4S cord still thick

Well, I'm bummed. I wanted ER-4S's with the thinner braided cable, but I just got an email from Etymotic saying they still use the heavier cable for that one. Rats.

[Backstory: my wife and I have two pair of ER-4P's -- one with the older heavy cable -- and one 4P-4S adaptor cable. I've found the 4P sound fatigues me quickly - I keep wanting to play with EQ. The 4S, though, is lovely to my ears. And I much prefer the braided cable. So I had hopes of sending the old-cord 4P in for a dual-purpose upgrade: give me the braided cables and while you're at it switch me to the 4S resistor network. That would give me a light-cord ER-4S with no added dangly bits, which was exactly what I wanted. Unfortunately nothing doing. ]
