Which would sound better - opinions?

Anyone on here got any opinions on these 2 portable setups and which would sound better?

1. Sony Walkman A729 > iBasso T4 into Headphone out > Head Direct RE0 > MP3 @ 320kbps

or

2. iPod 5.5g > LOD > iBasso T4 > Head Direct RE0 > FLAC


I'm not really sure if it's worth upgrading what I have now and if it will sound better or worse, any opinions are great thanks.

Given that you already have the Sony DAP and the REO, my suggestion is that you buy the iBasso and give option 1 a shot. If it doesnt work out, there is always option 2, and you havent lost anything in buying the amp. I find 320k VBR absolutely fine from a DAP, but you may notice a difference with the RE0 - I would experiment from the computer you use to sync your iPod.

i choose ipod because of the LOD , btw, ipod support ALAC, not FLAC

Ok thanks, I guess getting the amp first would have been better since I would need either way no matter which option I choose.

Was really sure the iPod did FLAC but oh well



Do most of the people on here use iPods for the sound quality? or because they are among the only players with such high storage capacity that can also play back gapless and lossless

I say #2, for the simple reason that you play back lossless files and use a LOD.

if you hear the diffrences betwin losless and MP3 then the answer must be 2
otherwise stick with what you have right now

A iPod 5.5g with Rockbox firmware installed will support FLAC.

5.5G ipod will sound much better because it sends out clean signals than Sony HP jack which will not help to get better sound out of it with mp3 quality. Also need better quality dock cable like ALO 18AWG SXC or 18AWG jumbo cryo for best sound out of ipod.
