HD555 only outputs mono sound

Hey Guys -

Not sure if this is the right forum for this, but I didn't see anything for repair, so here goes.

My HD555's recently stopped outputting full stereo sound. I can get sound out of both cans by pulling out the 3.5mm connector a little, but its just dual-mono sound. I've tested the jack with other headphones, and tried a new 1/4" - 3.5mm adapter and the problem persists, so I'm pretty sure it's the actual headphones.

Does anyone have any inkling whether this would be fixable with a cable replacement, or would I be better off sending it in for a repair on the cans themselves?

send it for repair if they are covered under warranty.

You can pull out (gently) the earpad of the cable-side driver, then pull out the protective screen, exposing the driver. To the bottom left is the cable entry, and a block of foam. Pry out the foam and you'll see the 4-pin connector. If everything looks stable, then double/triple check your source and jack... If everything goes ok, then sen 'em in. If they're out of warranty, post some pics here and someone may be able to fix them, or sell you a replacement cable.

FWIW, I have owned a pair of 555s for 3 years, and have disassembled them multiple times.
