Poll: Limit Signature Size?

Thread Starter
Do you think signatures should be limited to, say 3 lines or less?
Am I the only one who is annoyed by seeing brightly colored, half page long signatures?
I like having signatures on to see useful info, but it is often too much ...

edit:
For clarification, I said 3 only as an example. I'm actually fine
with 5. When I made the poll, I didn't know there was such a
limit (due to having seen many sigs with 15+ lines)

For clarification2: no means you think signatures should be as unlimited.

If I recall, signature space has been cut down a few times in the past. There have been a few with truly huge sigs - irritating when I'm trying to browse on the iPhone.

Agreed.
Less than 4 lines is best. Seriously, I only read other's signatures when I want to check the feedbacks. Never read other stuffs.

A reasonable alternative is to have a link (like "Show Spoiler" features in many forums) that show/hides each individual signature. This way, if I disable the signatures by default, I can still view them when necessary.

Such a link already exists in as much as there's the link to one's profile that has much the same info folks keep in their sigs.

Right, but many don't have the same info in profile as signature. Also, it forces you to open a new window or navigate to a new page...

The limit is now 5 lines, and they can't be large font size or have wild colors or flashing junk.

If you see any signatures that you think are completely obnoxious, please send a PM to a moderator and we'll look into it.

We do try to be as reasonable as possible and work with whomever has an offending signature.

The main thing is that they're not too distracting. I haven't changed my sig in quite some time, and for the most part nobody seems to notice it.

No, I think the current limitations are fine.
BUT I think they should be enforced to every member, even those who have not edited their signature since prior to the limitation. Some of them still have 10+ lines signatures.

Hmm. I see a lot of sigs over 5 lines. Why doesn't the limit work

But that means YES, there should be a limit

I was just thinking this the other day, some huge sigs floating about in some threads. 5 line should be enough for anyone, and I include blank "spacer" lines in that too.
As I recall, the current 5 line limit was instigates sometime last year. Anyone who signed up for these forums prior to that and made their signature prior to that may have a signature larger than 5 lines.

Personally, I don't mind the larger signatures until they start turning into essays that use every color of the rainbow in them...

There is already a limit.
I mean NO to limiting it further to 3 lines, as you mentioned...

Long sigs that actually serve a purpose usually don't bother me. What bothers me is people who have long sigs because they include junk that's "coming" or "next", things that they don't own and won't own for some time. Then I think the long sigs are kind of pointless. Pretentious quotes that makes sigs 10 lines long also annoy me when scrolling through a page. I'm also not a fan of people who stuff "daddy's" gear in their sig, I mean what's the point of that? So long as the sig is relevant, I'm not bothered.

I concur a limit is a good idea, 2 or 3 lines tops, not that they bother me but I can see how some can bother others.
hmm ive never noticed them really as being a bother but then the monitors i normally use are 1920 x 1200 so most posts are usually a couple of lines anyway, most of the space is taken by the avatar and post header

is mine excessive?
