Furutech fp-704 seek solder help

Ive searched around, but can't find a guide for how tosolder this plug. I have seen some tutorials about soldering generic plugs, but they all have holes for left and right. This plug has no holes, only flat plates. The shorter one has me a little baffled because it looks so hard to get at. Do I have to take the plug assembly apart more than I already have?

I am on my iPod and can't post pics but I think if you are reading this you already know what it looks like.

The other problem it that the silver tab where I should solder the ground wires is flush with the tube caseing when the plug assembly is slid in. There is a hole in this one, but if I were to tuck the wires into the hole and solder them I would not be able to thread on the barrel.

On a similar note, I'm wondering about the best way to solder on the cardas senn plugs in the other end. They also have the tunnel shaped solder points that the furutech has. My solder experience has been with tabs with holes ( like a coke pull tab) and soldering 2 wires together. Antione who could direct me or post pics or a quick how to would be my hero for the weekend!

Thanks. Excuse the mistakes. The iPod spelcheck makes them.

It doesn't matter if it has the holes or not. Just solder your wires to the flat panels. No difference. When taken apart, the plug will have 4 parts. If you have more, I don't know what would happen

You would need a helping hand to make it easier.

Tin the wires and use extra flux.

And should I tin the pots too? Do I tin them both and then use the solder tinned onto the two to make the connection or do I need to only tin the wire and then add the solder to create the joint?
I found that the ground should be solders from the outside and then snipped and filed down leaving the inside connected.
Now I have to fond out for sure if the longer post/pot is left or right. Should be on headfi somewhere. I also found another thread for the sennheiser plugs although the description seems just about as hard as I thought it would be!!

Thanks for the suggestions!

What I do is tin the wire, add a drop of flux to the pin place them together by hand or with helping hands. Then I touch the iron to the solder so I have a small blob on the tip. Touch the blob to the joint and hold for a second. That should produce a tight smooth joint. Flux is the key to this method.
[Edit] From what I have read about the Furutech you may need more than a seconds contact but I still think that additional flux will be the key to this.

I'll give it a try tomorrow. Seems my tip is lunched. I can't get it to tin no matter how had I try and even heating the wire for 10 scones doesn't cause the solder to flow onto it. I'll get a new tip and try your method.
I might even give it a roll torrow with the chisel tip that came with the iron.

Soldering seems lkw it should be so easy. I can't understand how it's become the bane of my free time!

Try to clean your solder tip.

Heat the panels of your plug for 5 seconds and then flow the solder. Would be much easier.

That's the thing. The tip won't tin and the solder won't flow even of I am heating the wire. I read somewhere that some tips are coated in a sort of enamel and that if it wears off or is damaged that the iron won't transfer heat. I unfortunatly read that AFTER I had taken a little steel wool to the tip. I can hold the tip to thecwire now for as long as I like, but nothing flows.
I'll call the tip situation solved.
The furutech still seems weird to me. I guess I'll solder one wire into the pot and the other on top of the other, shorter, pot.

If anyone is reading this and wondering about the senn plugs...search the forum and there is a good how to. He reccommends that you split them with a knife and later shrink them back together. It's a useful post!

You are wasting your time till you get your tip fixed. Sounds like you need a new tip. Tips should always be stored tinned. 90% of my soldering time is spent tending to the tip. I retin on almost every joint, I clean the tip on almost every joint. My tips never wear out and they always solder immediately. So let me repeat, you are wasting your time till you get your tip fixed.
