where to buy Manufaktur-like genuine leather?

hi there,

I'm dying to treat my cd1k this way: http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f6/sli...iendly-310323/

I haven't been able to source Manufaktur-like leather in my area, the best I've found is some very thin/super soft black pleather...damn, this would be so awesome on my cd1k

leather has good sides: it won't turn into zillion little black fragments after a while(like the cd3k ear pads do) and it's pretty stiff, so 2 pieces + some glue and you're good to go!

OTOH, pleather doesn't get oily due to sweat after a while(like the Manufaktur leather does), but it's not stiff at all and it's not durable.

I'd rather get something really cheap, second hand is cool...ebay prolly has what I want, but I'm not too sure what to look for

I've seen some italian ppl selling raw goat skin on ebay, that's what they used on the Edition 9....gotta be good?

I also have some beat up pads I could mod...any insight appreciated

Here you go:

Leather Outlet

I love leather too and have had good dealings with Leather Outlet.

Good luck!

very nice, thanks for the link!

do you know what's very thin and Manufaktur-like soft in these? also Beyer's leather doesn't get hot on summer, they must have chosen it VERY carefully..

They usually give the weight/thickness of the particular piece on sale. You want to look for something around 1mm.

I like Tandy's as well for leather. For this kind of thing you want either a lambskin or maybe a deerskin. I would go with 1.5mm personally as any thinner you are likely to tear the leather if you're not used to handling material like this.

As far as glues, I like DAP cement for this, or Duco cement, though DAP cement is cheaper and easier to work with.
