There have been several threads about this in the past, but I'm sure it will be news to many of our newer members. Quite an amazing collection that sadly, nobody seems to want to buy.

You would think there would be a nonprofit organization that could offer him somthing that he would take so that this music could be saved for future generations. Maybe most people are not into older music. What an expense to move and care for such a collection. Something good will become of it. In life a lifetime of work never gets overlooked 100%.

It's a shame that no one will buy this, but it would be a huge obligation to properly care for it. You might spend much more on storage and maintenance than on the collection.

I think the best option would be with a college or university. Many have the storage (or could build storage) and might have preservationists on staff. That would keep the collection intact and give serious researchers access to it.

Maybe instead of a lump sum, the school could set him up with a lifetime annuity, put him on their medical plan, etc. That would minimize their costs and end up being a good deal for the owner.

Uncle Erik, you're completely right. That's a great idea.

This collection is amazing, however, unless a plan is put into place it might end up without a good ending.

Thanks for posting the video though, I'd read about it when it was put on ebay and a few other times but the video brings it all home.

I cant imagine the amount of work (and $$$) involved with a collection of that size. i have two friends with big collections (one over 10K and another over 30K records) and I get lost looking for what I want to hear. To many choices.

The collection never sold. I believe it did sell on eBay but the deal never completed. They do have a plan though. A plan for a non-profit and a museum to maintain and grow the collection. There may be a happy ending yet.

wow, very moving clip. I hope he really does work something out, because it would just be a waste if that collection was mistreated even a little bit for someone who literally dedicated his whole life to this hobby.

Very sad. I had read about this before but the documentary really breaks my heart.

I am a huge music fan. If someone buys this for me, I would spend my time transferring it to digital. We should pull our resources together.

Just the thought of storing and the upkeep of all these records is mind blowing. A co-worker has over 35,000 albums and it is a huge collection when you stand close to it. Now multiply that by 70 to get to 2.5 million albums and 45's and ...
