Building up knowledge

I've always been very interesting music and all the technology behind it.

Even though I've been in to music for well ever the tech has only interested me for a while and basically I would like to improve my knowledge but the hardest thing is knowing where to start and what to read.

I've read many topics on this forum and elsewhere, i've read wiki's, reviews and much more. But I find that there are many aspects I can't really place.

So what should I read first? I would assume something that covers the basics of how music "works" covering important technical terms and such so that I can fully understand the more in-depth topics without having to google something every few lines.

Maybe this would be interesting for others that want to get in to understanding music tech make an reading order of books, wiki's tutorials etc that build on each other so that one can accumulate knowledge in a logical order without getting lost in the material.

Post links you think will help this topic I'll review them and place them in the list.

... (here be dragons, or a list of sorts when the first links start rolling in)

Basic terminology:

Did you even attempt to read my post or you just thought giving that answers as an easy way out?

I'm not just trying to help myself but also other users on this forum. Knowing what to read and in what order so things actually makes sense as you read them will make things a lot easier for everyone. It will possibly save a lot of repeated questions on the forums and more knowledgeable answers to those that ask something.

People ask repeated questions mostly because a) they are lazy or b) people that don't know where to start, read a few topics but got confused by the terminology because no one ever cared to explain it to them.

There will always be people that fit in the first group and I understand you don't want to put too much effort in to helping them. But I think we should support the second group who actually wants to put some effort in to learning what out there but would prefer to do so in an logical way.

Here's a Sticky that will help you understand what people are talking about:

It's probably one of the best places to start. Knowledge is Power!

thank you, Will add that list to my post indeed very helpful.

I'm looking for topics that cover the basics, audio topics you say to a complete newbie "read these and you will have a much better understanding of how music, sound and the technology works." Topics that help make sense of the more in-depth topics.

Is there really no interest at all to make a decent list in a understandable order coving all basics of sound, headphones and the tech behind it...

I'm somewhat disappointed I think this thread could be a major addition to the forums especially to newcomers.

Two things:

1. Learn to read music and play an instrument.

2. Build an amp.

You'll learn a lot more than you will by reading posts, etc.

and to learn either of those you need information... and a good source of information that is stored in a logical way so that people reading it actually have an idea where they should start.

Which is exactly what I'm trying to do here.
