Was looking for a nice french jazz album with a sultry female vocal. Something smokey, soulfull. nothing like pop or FOTM. Any suggestions?

Try Paris Combo. I adore their music, both the slow and up tempo songs. All are fantastic.

I second Paris Combo, "Motifs" is my favorite of theirs. And also late Patricia Kaas "Piano Bar" and "Sexe Fort". Carla Bruni "Quelqu'un M'a Dit" is smokey, though it's not jazz, still it might work.
