Any opinions on MZ-n10 vs. MZ-NF810CK

I am in conflict of which one to buy, just wondering if you people had any suggestions, opinions, etc.

I would say get the N10 for the resale value, if nothing else. And I personally think the design of the 810 is kinda ugly....

The N10, on the otherhand, particularly in that black/charcoal color... now that is just plain badass...

But it also depends on if you need the car kit. If you're looking for something more functional and already comes with the car kit, then the 810 might work out better for you. I'm guessing it's cheaper than the N10?

For the money you'd spend on the N10, you may want to check out the Sharp stuff (DR7). Word is that it sounds noticeably better than the N10... I'd suggest doing a search here on the boards for a DR7/N10 comparison or review.

Best of luck!

well if you can live with getting a japanese unit (which the charcoal N10 is), then you should get the N910 if you have to have NetMD, or the Sharp DR7 if you don't, the new Sharp DR80/580 has NetMD, but I dont' know if it's any good or not, it has NO unit-lcd, only on the remote, it's kinda useless.

get them all at Audiocubes

Personally I'm not a fan of non removable batteries, which the N10 has. I also like the 910 better.

I think go for the N10. That way you won't be stuck wondering whether you made the right choice. The N10 is incredibly light for a full recorder (makes a real difference in the 'slip in pocket' comparison), it has all the top-end features and has the highest speed in Net MD mode.

I suppose it depends on whether you need the radio and the cark kit too, that's pretty obvious

The non removable battery may be an issue for some, but I don't think it holds any issues in practice. You can get 3 years of fairly heavy use out of the built-in cell, and it is factory replaceable. It can be argued that you can carry spare NH-14 batteries on any other machine, but you can also carry the AA battery compartment with you for the N10.

Build quality on the non-Japanese units (like the 810CK) leaves a lot to be desired, IMHO. I've read too many stories about loose screws and dodgy headphone jacks in these lower-priced MD recorders.

I agree--- granted, models like the 510, 610, 810 aren't the "top end" units, but they still go for between $149-199 at places like Best Buy and Target, and for alot of people, that's a good chunk of money to spend on something that's all plastic and has a less-than-confidence-inspiring build.

you should be able to grab an N10 on Ebay for about $265-270 shipped..

I'm still considering getting one (must... resist...)

SBG, the NF810 was a lot more solidly built than the N1 was, or at least the one at the Good Guys I went to while in Ca, the open-switch on the N1 just worked, so I was barely able to open it, but the NF810's opened nicely.

I own an N10 and it's a great recorder, but I'd rather have gone for an N910 or DR7. The N910 because it feels much more solid and I'm starting to like the idea of gumsticks again, because I used to be able to carry a spare around. The N10's battery life is pretty dissapointing too.

If you can live without NetMD (it sucks anyway, no SP mode) then definatly go for the Sharp MD-DR7, it's equipped with the Auvi 1-Bit Digital Amp and is all metal (even the insides) excellent sound and excellent build quality.

I'm more and more intrigued by the DR7 as time goes by; my next unit will either be the DR7 or the sexy E720 player that was just announced.

From the consensus around hear and my needs, I think I will get the Sharp MD-DR7. However, I do have one question, how strudy is the battery door on the unit. I have had some sony's where the battery door would become loose after awhile and become useless. That is the only concern I have about the unit.

Never heard of there being a problem with the DR7's battery door. However I do hear complaints about Sony's coming loose alot. So I'm guessing the Sharps are OK
