It seems that the Mid-bass was paying a heavy price, to fulfill the bottom extensions needs, They were totally dominated by the lower frequencies, and from 1K to 20K, the sound was really good, but I can't say "Exceptional" The 7000's are a closed back headphone, but i could hear everyone's conversations and the bleed coming from the other headphone. I really got to enjoy them during our 35 minute "quiet time, so I would have to see what they sounded like in my bedroom rig with everyone in the house using their 'inside" voices and marshmellow feet.
Poor kids. Little did they know that they were going to be born into a lunatic audiophile's household. At least my wife knew what she was buying when she went shopping for a cow, errr, I mean husband. I pulled no punches with her. She knew that there would be late night music blasting sessions and there would also be tupperware time in place of China clanking time. When she was working, I got it out of my system 2 hours/day before she and my son walked through the door, each day at 7 p.m.

Anyway, Yikes 7000's were an unfair comparison because his were rewired by Drew at Moon audio with $1100 worth of Siltech wiring,. Pretty much the best wire money can buy, and it better be good.
Basically, I heard the 7000's in the best arena they could possibly be played in. A truly unfair comparison. $999 headphones that can be bought for 700 clams, with $1100 worth of wiring plus, high quality labor thrown in. If these puppies didn't sound good, then I needed to find a new hobby, of the term "snake oil" would have had it's textbook definition.
They were the best sounding combo I could find until I moved over to Ethan's Jade/Siltech wired GES and I gotta say, the Jades Siltech sounded better. I could only imagine what it would have been like with a Siltech wired WES with the $1000 V-cap kit.
Great impressions, but I think you have this thread confused for another.

Sorry for rambling on, especially in a paid MOT sponsored thread. I guess my point was, if you read the 10 previous posts, that the D7000's could be a contender in the bass department, if it weren't for the need for special wiring, and stealing away from the mid bass frequencies to make the lower extension so good.
The HE-5 does this without needing the expensive wiring and "borrowing" from the next level up, of bass frequencies. No thread confusion.

Any impressions of listening to HE-5 through a Solo SRG?

I'll be able to comment soon, as will Skylab right before me, since we have one coming on loan.

immtbiker should be able to provide feedback NOW on this pairing since he currently has both a Solo SRGII and the HE-5!

Normally up in my bedroom rig (CD5001 > PS Audio DLIII > HEV70, WA6, SAC and EF5 amps) I would use my HF-2, HD600, K1000 and HE60 the most; but now I find myself pretty much only listening to the HE-5 and enjoying them the most.

My basement rig is the Apogee > ZDT where I keep my HD800, LA7000 and RS-1, with SRD-7 Mk2 to drive O2 Mk1/Jade (awaiting Woo WES). I haven't felt the need to run down there in days to listen to music. I am still burning in the EF5 and HE-5 right now, and will do more comparisons at 200+ hours.

The HE-5 continue to amaze me with the their sound for only $600 phones. They are the best orthodynamic phones I have tried, and offer competition with phones twice their price, dynamic or electrostatic.

I hope they make an inexpensive balanced cable(4 pin xlr) for it soon. I would buy one just to compare against the K1000 but I don't want to modify the stock cable due to resale/refund. It would be interesting to see what they can do running off the F1.

^if you would be up for modification of the stock cable, why not make your own balanced cable? It's not like you have to do any work on the cans themselves.

The newest generation of the Solo SRG and the HE-5's have great synergy.
Currently until I send it on it is my "Go to rig." Word of caution. The SRG must be left on for maximum output, otherwise it sounds dry and lifeless.
Mr. Arroyo taught me this. Even though it's SS, I'm not sure if it's the amp or the separate P/S, it makes a world of difference.

The SRG also sounds great with the hD800's and the higher quality Grados.
I'm listening to it right now, with the HE-5's, as we speak (write).

Gobble...gobble.

That would be fine with me if the connectors that go into the headphone cups are easy to get ahold of. I have a bunch of extra 18awg copper wire here and cardas quad solder. Anyone know what type of connectors are used?

Thank you for the update. Reading these posts makes me anticipate these cans that much more.

Steve Guttenberg just did a little mini-review of the HE-5, says he prefers them to HD-800.
