SQ : S9 HP out -> amp vs ipod 7th gen LOD -> amp

hi everyone

im in a fix at the moment and cant decide between the above 2 combos. my question is which one would sound better when the amp is the ibasso P3+.

the main reason i was considering the s9 was i heard so much about its sound quality. it also plays back flac ( i dont want to be converting to alac) and it has drag and drop. but it doesn't have a LOD and i have to use the HP out, which btw i have heard it amongst the best.

the ipod coz it has 160 gb storage and also becoz of the LOD which is the best for the amp. does anyone know of the 7th gen classic can be rockboxed?

also about the amps:
1. is there any difference between the t4 and the p3+ apart from the opamp rolling kit?
2. what is the expected battery life of the p3+?

my headphones would be the ie8s and i listen to a wide variety of music, nothing in particular.

P3+: Roughly the same size as the Cobra, has 6 AAA batteries in it, weighs 122g (without batteries, I assume).

T4: Bass boost switch, half as thin (20mm vs 10mm), 4 times lighter (30g), internal Li-Pol battery.

Can't comment on what's best, how much you like to carry, or what they sound like.

As far as Rockbox goes, keep checking their site. I doubt it will happen for the Classics anytime soon though, but there has been good progress on the 2nd gen Nano port.

maybe i should rephrase the first part of my question: :P

1. which would sound better: S9 HP out -> amp OR ipod 7th gen LOD -> amp

I routinely run my X1060 into my integrated amp and it sounds great - didnt have the same joy with my spanking new 6G Classic, even though I enjoy the sound from the headphone out unamped. Go figure.
