Best Cans for Hardcore/Metal ($300-500) - Page 2

I actually think I may go with the SR325i's. I've always heard it was my next step in the Grado line. I think after that, I may go with a DAC or Amp. Idk much into the amp world. Never had that nice of a setup lol.

I love my 325is with various melodic metalcore, classic metal and nu-metal (yeah, I know..) albums, but you really have to be man enough to take the treble, particularly in the first hundred hours. Get beyond that, and I have no doubt that you will love these cans as much as the rest of the 325 diehards on this board.

Now that I've pretty much made a decision, now it's up to finding a good amp other than my basic cMoy. Any ideas guys?

I think you'll be very happy with the 325s, I have Alessandro MS2i and they are so much fun and can really be brutal with hardcore and metal.
As mentioned, K701 would give you the prat and detail, but I think they would ultimately be rather boring in comparison to the Grados.

Yeah. You need to upgrade your source amp for sure. That will be worth just as much as new headphones. I do like Grados but they are pretty limited if you only have one can. There is a pair of V1 Darths on the fs for about $200. If you want a really "fun" can, those are it. Otherwise, the Ultrasone 780 is a good one. You can buy it used and mod it as you get $$. Sucker is sweet for metal when you have a completely modded one. Of course, it ends up costing about the same as a Pro 900 lol. Dunno man, upgrade your source and amp for sure though.

Buy a used Denon 2900 for around 120 or maybe less.. They were a 1,000 in 03.. And for 100 sound absolutely nutty. I went with the Denon 5900. Was 2,000 in 03, paid 250 for it... HDCD sound out of this world, and CD playback trounces my 150 Sony SACD player.. In the end, buy vintage.

Well I've been looking at some sound cards, thought I have a Creative X-Fi XtremeMusic in my PC. What amp would you guys suggest. I've been looking at the Auzentech Brazura that's about to come out. Has a dedicated headphone amp built into it along with a dedicated 1/4" headphone output.

Just listened to Slayer's "Reign in Blood" with my AMP3 and Yuin PK1's. Sounded great. You can see all my cans in my sig and though I like them all I think my PK1's sound as good or better than any of them. Really bring the mids closer which is great for the voice. You could probably get the combo for $300, or under if you look second-hand. Warning though, the PK1's do benefit from an amp, otherwise they sound a bit thin.

Yep, the Denon DVD-2900 is a stellar source component for the budget minded audio enthusiast. I got mine on "the bay" for a whopping $153.

As far as a good amp upgrade for your Grado's and given your preference in genres, I'd say keep your eyes open for a M^3.
