Grado SR-80i VS. Grado SR-125i

when you spend the extra $50 for the 125i, what more (in lemans terms) do you get out of it?

in what areas are they better?

thanks!

SR80 get recommended here over the SR125 more often than not for those with wallets that aren't bottomless. I hear the SR125 is brighter, see: here and here. So.. by saying that, you may find the SR125 a bit harsh compared to the SR80.

But... by mathematics, [Grado SR-125i] - [Grado SR-80i] is a whole 45 better *eyeroll*

oh booo, i searched for an old thread comparing the 2 and i failed. ha, oh well.

um, so the SR125 won't have any better bass? from what i've read of the SR-80i is that it is lacking bass... i guess it depends who you ask...

so that means the cheaper model wins!

I have both but in no the "i"s. I find the 125 a nice upgrade, more refinement in the highs imho. In my experience the 125 and 225s are similar and the 325 a bit better still and the RS-1 a big step up over the 325, especially in the highs.

agreed!

I'll add that I've listened to the "i" versions and came up with this:

(125 = 225) > 80

the 125s also have more bass than the 80s.

Also, I use flats on my 125s in case anyone is wondering.

throw the 125s on an amp (little dot or ef2) and you'll be in grado bliss.

Interesting to read the above comments!

I always thought the general consensus was that the SR-125 isn't worth its money. The MS-1 uses the same drivers but is cheaper to begin with. Secondly, the SR-225 is considered to be the sweet spot by many.

Personally i'm going to be buying a pair of MS-1's for a close friends' birthday pressie soon. Searching the forums it sounds cheap and decent
post #9 of 29
^ It does.

If you're a real friend however you will be wanting either HD414 pads or bowls.

yikes so it looks as if opinions are pretty widespread on this.

what about alessandro ms1 vs grado sr80i vs sr125r

how do they differ?

+ i am using a cheap Fiio E5 amp...
MS1 is better priced than the 125, but is around the same quality. MS1 are smoother and less top endy - which is the thing that often turns people off grado's.

Don't bother with the Fiio, they don't need an amp, and a Fiio certainly isn't one.

so the MS1 is better than the sr80i?
^ There simply is no better. I only heard the SR80 briefly on someone else his system but fwiw I believe the SR80 is the more aggressive cousin. They sounded a bit like EQ'ed MS-1s to my ears.

MS-1 are for Sennheiser fans, take a pair of Grado's suck out all the fun and dynamics and you have a pair of Allesandro's!

Am I missing something with the 225s?

They sound so alike to the 125s that I concluded that there is little to no difference between them.
