I already have the Megadeth, Metallica, and Loomis albums, but I'll look into the others. Thanks!

Overall music quality aside, Children Of Bodom - Hatebreeder album pretty much rides on face melting and neck breaking but still melodic solos. Alexi Laiho knows his way around solo guitar.

YouTube - Children of bodom - Silent night bodom night

^I'll check that one out. It has very good sound quality? I'm definitely looking for that, plus soloing/shredding.

IMO yes. Bit thin as the bass guitar is lost somewhere in the mix (similar to Metallica - AJFA album), but no clipping. Serves CoB's unique (mixture of powermetal and melodic deathmetal) style of metal really well.

*edit* Perhaps better album for CoB's soloing would be their Tokyo Warhearts live-album. One of the best live albums I have heard, with lot of songs from Hatebreeder but faster and more skilled playing.

Exodus - Bonded by Blood
Coroner - R.I.P.,Punishment for Decadence
Artillery - By inheritance
Kreator - Pleasure to Kill

Perhaps these wiki articles on Thrash Metal and Speed Metal would be to your interest.

Bands with some of the best solos:

Death
Gorod
Symphony X
Atheist
Cynic
Sadist
Rhapsody

Then there's the obvious like Megadeth, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden.

Oh yeah. OP, do you have Megadeth's latest album, Endgame? Its full of amazing solos.

I second Children of Bodom, though you have to remember that a lot of their "solos" are actually keyboard-guitar duos. Though, of course, that certainly doesn't make them bad! Still one of my favourite acts. Try Chokehold (Cocked 'n' Loaded) from Hate Crew Deathroll as a supreme example of shredding. In terms of SQ, it's a bit loud and a tad compressed but certainly nowhere near as bad as, say, Lacuna Coil's Shallow Life. (blech)

Yngwie Malmsteen

I really detest the guy, but still…

+ YouTube Video

yes for standard melodic solo you have the specialists: Malmsteen, Vai etc

But for stuff that comes from another dimension how about some truely sick "lava" work from Trey Azagthoth (Morbid Angel)
Where does this guy come up with this stuff??

Opeth, Opeth, Opeth.

You can't get anything better in modern prog-metal. I love Dream Theater, but Opeth are just as good.

OK, I'm gonna give a couple Opeth albums a listen here in the next couple of weeks.

And guys, I'm looking for stuff with very good sound quality... a lot of the stuff being posted is hardly that.
