What's very interesting is that Sharp added a large blurb about its ATRAC. The MT770's ATRAC description was identical to the MT77 press release, but the MT880 has an extra setting - the hearing threshold and masking curve (put down as separate items) are variable from case to case. This is done in both SP and LP recording.

Sharp supplied the ATRAC (using a 32-bit LSI chip) for a Marantz CD-MD deck (CM6200), and some owner mentioned that the ATRAC seems to amplify background noise and all breathy sibilant effects. Wonder if this is some kind of a fix.
