Help: RE0 vs Westone 1 vs Westone UM1 Help with detailed needs

Please help me decide between these IEMs.

I mainly listen to slow songs(jazz, acoustics, etc) but occasionally listen to trance, techno(artist like HardFloor, BT, Hybrid, DJ Tiesto, DJ Dean, Kraftwerk, etc)

I listen to various songs to be honest, but those genres are my favs.

Reason for choosing those 3 was:
- RE0 - cheap for a good review in here(103$)
- Westone 1 - New and it has a smaller build of UM3X which i think is the flagship currently. I hope the performace is like some people said about 80% of UM3X.(139$)
- Westone UM1 - Old, but many people liked it, and so far people said it was a good choice also.(110$)

I will use the IEM in these specific ways:
- iPod Classic 120GB
- No EQ being using
- music rips are about 192kbps minimum
- Foam only since i like the isolation they gave me.
- No AMP. I dont have one. I will research some more on this, but for everyday use, i will not use it.
- Microphonic is not a big deal for me

Sound quality i'm looking for:
- bass must have some revert or thumping sound, and precise as well.(iphone 3gs stock buds proved me they aren't sufficient for me.)
- mids is a less of a concern for me, but voice must be clear.
- highs, i have some songs that have these sparkling2 effects which i really take note to define a good song or not by how clear can the sound be reproduced.

songs i listened to for testing:
- Kraftwerk - Aero Dynamik - YouTube - Aero Dynamik
- DJ Sasha - Xpander - YouTube - Dj Sasha-Xpander
- Safri Duo - Played a Live - YouTube - Safri Duo - Played A Live
- YouTube - DD(Full Song)-Itou Kanako [FRENCH VER.]
- YouTube - Macross Frontier -Diamond Crevasse
- YouTube - A Wish For The Stars

Thanks guys, i'm really looking forward to someone that can help me with this.

NOTE: i found a site to create your own EQ, it's interesting. I think i read this somewhere from Head-Fi

I don't think the RE0 will fit your bass needs. Let me check some songs quick.

Edit: Yeah you probably wouldn't like the bass in the RE0, I just did a quick comparison with my NE-7m, for songs you listed you might pass on the RE0.

If the Classic has an EQ setup to where you can slightly bump up the bass without messing anything else up, that would really help the RE0's. It makes a pretty big difference with my Rockboxed iPod Photo. Not basshead material, but a significant increase without muddying up everything else. I haven't heard the W1 or the UM1, so I can't comment on them.

Apparently, i tried most of the EQ settings, and they just ruins the songs. Some have noises, or cracklings. That's why i leave the EQ to none.

That's why I use Rockbox . You probably won't be able to get as much bass as you would want out of the RE0's then.

Westone 1 is probably too new to get any serious reviews yet (I did a search in the forum and found none).

Out of all three you have listed I have only limited experience with UM1. They are alright, quite like their bigger cousin UM2 in overall sound signature except not as refined and bassy (meaning more balanced); good all-rounder. The UM2's kicked their ass in all aspects though, and maybe you should also consider 2nd hand UM2 for just slightly more than your budget right now.

I found a mini-review on Westone 1. However, on the next they have mixed review. Some liked the UM1 better, than the W1.

The difference in it is that the cable is better on Westone 1, and the build is very similar to UM3X which is the top of the line currently. The accessories that came with Westone 1 is like a library of tips, that you can basically try all of them till you find a good fit. Which is helpful for someone who has trouble with standard tips.

I'm not sure what other contenders that you might suggest. My budget is less than 140$

140 is the max(ablsolute max)

Thanks

Don't know about the Westones but the RE0 sounded particularly good with acoustic music unamped. It certainly can handle bass, it just is not that pronounced. An amp, even a cheapie like the FiiO E5, can fill in the bass.

After played around with it. I'm in a mix with RE0.

Sound wise, the it delivers a clear and vibrant sound. However, i find it hard to get a tight seal in my ear. I haven't tried using Comply tips yet, however, people suggested me to not use it. It will dull the sound as they said. I also feel the lack of bass, but that might be caused by the improper seal.

Case is very sturdy, looks a bit cheap, but it was better than what was shown in the website.

Accessories they provide is a standard. Basic 2 silicone flanges, and some black tips. They are hard to put in. I'm having trouble not breaking the tips when trying to get the best tips out of them. I tear one of the larger bi-flanges accidentally. The clip was useless for me. It has no benefit since the microphonic will still travel from the friction with my clothes. However, it's a nice accessories to have for people that can use it.

RE0 + Fiio E5 does add some oomph to the sound, but that's all there is to it. I have difficulty differentiating the sound it reproduce.

However, Fiio E5 served my Sennheisser HD280 Pro really well. It brings more vibration to my head. Though i prefer to get a more decent headphone amp, but this one will do for now.

All in all, i rate this purchase an 8.9/10

I still recommend RE0 to other people that is not a bassy head, so they can appreciate the clear and detailed sound it produces.
