Well, it looks like the best price I can find online for a M8136 online is $40, which isn't bad considering what other people are asking for. And if they want 40 pounds, in the land where they originated, then $40 can't be too bad, huh? I guess I'm posting in hopes that someone knows where they can be had at a better price. If not, I buy tomorrow. After all, I could always use a back-up to the Mullard I have, right?

Oh oh. I feel like the little kid who told everyone how much lunch money he has. I saw it at Upscale Audio.

I'm getting amazing results from my Genalex B749 "Gold Lion" + TungSol Black Plate 5687 combination. But you could have one hard time trying to find the Genalex, and should you succeed, I doubt the price will be cheap!

I see you have B52. Have you tried Tompson 5687 made in France? They are good.

Does anyone have the link to the thread where someone inherited a room full of tubes?
It was about a month ago.

RFT and Mazda come to mind. They are outstanding. The new production JJ are nice also.

Exactly. However you will never get a Tesla to sound like a Telefunken no matter what criterion applies.

B749's the holy grail of 12AU7s.

I have some 5687s from France, they're called "CSF"s. I tried them with Amperex 7062 PQs in the 12AU7 position briefly, sounded good, need to try those again sometime.

I'm still using my original non-stock combo of Telefunken/Siemens 12AU7s and Tung Sol/Raytheon 5687s, sounds excellent. I leave the stock 12AX7s in the pre amp section cuz they just sit there burning up without being used but I got a pair of Brimars for that spot if I ever use the pre amp.

5814A tubes are a 12AU7 variant, and they sound similar to how 5751 sounds compared to 12AX7.

I have tried tons, and I currently favor RCA 5814A (both double and triple mica) as a leader in sound/price ratio. Tesla 12AU7's is also a leader in sound/price ratio..
