Just for a laugh so people can see where I'm coming from..... I thought I'd post a list of my 25 favorite albums or so (popular music albums)....People always accuse me of being a Pink Floyd hater on this forum because I happen to think they're vastly over-rated here, but I still very much am a fan.......

My favorite album of all time would have to be....

1. The Beatles - The White Album (aka The Beatles)
after that I would have to say.....
2.The Beach Boys - Pet Sounds
then it gets a little tougher, if I was going by all time favorites this next one would not crack the top five, but I seem to find myself more in love with it with every listen so I'll have to say
3. Elliott Smith - XO
Keeping in the spirit of great 90s might-have-beens....
4. Jeff Buckley - Grace
I think The Beatles masterpiece was actually not the White Album, though I think the White Album is a more beautiful work, but for me the Beatles most cohesive statement as an album is...
5. The Beatles - Abbey Road
Now it's time for Head-fi's favorite......
6. Pink Floyd - The Dark Side Of The Moon
Another great album from 1973....
7. Genesis - Selling England By The Pound
The rawest work on my list...
8. John Lennon - Plastic Ono Band
Another Genesis masterpiece....
9. Genesis - The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway
My favorite of all singersongwriters....
10. Joni Mitchell - For The Roses
At one time this would have been in my top 3...
11. Steely Dan - Aja
One of the greatest soul records ever....
12. Stevie Wonder - Songs In The Key Of Life
Some would say The Beatles greatest....
13. The Beatles - Revolver
Another Genesis classic......
14. Genesis - Nursery Cryme
Good ole Bobby...
15. Bob Dylan - Blood On The Tracks
A great concept album from soul-standpoint
16. Marvin Gaye - What's Going On
Joni's most celebrated record...
17. Joni Mitchell - Blue
Pink Floyd's second most beloved work (Yes more than The Wall)
18. Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here
Another Elliott classic....
19. Elliott Smith - Either/Or
The Beatles' most famous record I suppose...
20. The Beatles - Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
Hendrix's magnum opus....
21. Jimi Hendrix - Electric Ladyland
The greatest sonic delivery of the 90s?
22. Radiohead - OK Computer

I agree with Wayne. I prefer this thread to your other polls because there's a reason behind it and discussion along with it.

That said, pet sounds is the only intersection in our top 25

Try as I might to find some entertainment in it, Dark Side of the Moon still strikes me pompous, tedious, and lyrically asinine (i.e. prog rock). I get much more enjoyment out of Pet Sounds.

Precisely. Unlike David I would put Revolver at number one followed by Pet Sounds, but with either it is hard to imagine rock at this stage ever throwing up more perfect albums. Musically sophisticated, lyrically intelligent, adventurous arrangements and yet still accessible, these two are simply the peak of rock as art. After that I head for something tougher like Dylan's Highway 61 Revisited, but I wouldn't head for DSOTM at any stage of my list.
