Would a 'Koss PortaPro' headphones pair go well with a 'Sansa m240'?

Hello,

I have this player for a few years now but never really checked how good it is (in comparison to others). I started experimenting with sound quality lately and noticed how big the difference is when talking different kbps rates for example. I checked on Amazon to find out this player supports up to 128, which is good, but I'm thinking about upping it a bit. I understand that generally the quality of the sound is determined by all 3 parameters - the file, the headphones and the player itself.

Since I'm short on money I wasn't thinking about a shiny iPod but more like new headphones because currently I'm using ones that are equal in quality to those given in flights.

So I'm wondering... how much of an improvement would I hear if we're talking about headphones that at my country cost $70?

Thanks for your time.

Heh, I've been using that combo when my ipod broke. It should be fine. I really like the portapro

And would you say those headphones will be as good if coupled with a future iPod-class player as well? In other words, are they capable of delivering better quality than what the current player allows?

Sandisk Sansa * + Koss Portapro's = some of the best portable digital sound money can buy!

And the fact you can get the nicest Sansa (Fuze 8gb, mines getting ordered on monday or tuesday) and a set of Portapro's (mine are on the way now from Amazon) for about $100 all together, it also happens to be very very cheap as well! The total cost of the 8gb fuze and the portapros together is only about 66% of the Ipod Nano 8gb gen5, which while fancier, does not sound nearly as good hahahaha. Apple fanboys hahaha

That sounds almost too good to be true... I sure hope you're right.

I only have enough money for the headphones or that player you mentioned. It's funny how in my country those "$100" are more like two-hundred. The m240 is great but with 1GB I always need to make sure the files I'm putting aren't above 128kbps otherwise the capacity really reaches the limit.
But anyway I suppose getting the headphones now and a newer player in the future is a better choice. I've always preferred quality over quantity.

Then perhaps it's best to ask you... how's the sound compared to that of primitive headphones in flights? What type of music do you hear and are you generally satisfied?

I'm about to shell out $65 on this one...

You could save a few bucks and go with a sansa clip. They have the same audio processing hardware inside as the fuze, but a much less fancy display, smaller capacity, and a smaller price tag.

There is also a cheaper version of the Koss Portapro's called the Koss KTXPRO1's. I got my portapros for 32 USD free shipping from amazon, the KTXPRO1's are only 20 USD. IMO the extra 12 dollars is worth the better sound quality and greater comfort of the portapros, but the KTXPRO1's sound almost as good (according to this forum).

So if you go with the clip and the KTXPRO1's instead of teh Fuze andthe Portapro's, that might knock the price low enough.

But I would do what I did, and get the phones first, then the 8gb fuze when you can afford it. The price difference is quite small, and whats an extra week or 2 for better equipment?!

Thanks a lot for your input. One last question - how different is the SQ between the m240 and the Fuze?

m240 would sound bassier than the clip tried both with portapro, but the clip cleaner.
m240 has more juice behind it giving it a better upbeat more fun sound.
