Headphones for Zune

Hey guys,

I just purchased a refurb black 8gb 2nd generation Zune and I'm in the market for a pair of nice sounding, portable, and affordable (<$100) earphones. I would prefer non sound isolating as I can't stand the feeling in my ears and I would like to be able to hear my surroundings well.

Ideally, I would just lug around my Audio Technica ATH-AD700's but I would look like a fool on the shuttle to work. :P

best bang for the buck is the RE0. If you want buds maybe the yuin pk2. What type of music do you listen to?

Thanks for the suggestions. I listen to a wide variety of genres: classical, jazz, rock, pop, electronic, you name it (not rap). I would prefer to avoid in-ear phones because of comfort issues. I will look a bit more into the yuin pk2's.

RE0's work nicely with my Zune, especially when amped. Despite your distaste for IEMs, you should definitely consider them because they are an amazing value. They're at the absolute max of your budget, but trust me, they're completely worth it. If you've got enough time to mess around with tips, I'm sure you'll like them.

Maybe you should look into portable headphones like Koss Portapro and KSC75 or Sennheiser PX100. Or would those be too big for your commute? I just ordered a pair of KSC75's tonight, so I can't give any insight on them right now.

Tell us more of what you have in mind so we can give you an accurate reccomendation.

Thanks. I was also considering the KSC75 but the clips turn me off to them. One day I may go back to try some IEM's but I have no interest in that now mostly because of comfort and not being able to hear my surroundings.

I'm really liking what I hear about the Yuki PK2's though. I might go ahead and order those. Where is the best place to order these? I was looking at head-direct.com...is that a reputable dealer?

Yuin Pk2 Earphones $79 @ Head-Direct | Head-Direct

Thanks!

Yep, head-direct is a reputable dealer, and probably the only worldwide dealer of the yuins. I bought my RE0 from them, took awhile but worth it. It is shipped from China.

Well, if he didn't want to lug his ATH-AD700 I don't think he would want to lug the PX100. Which is why he's looking at earbuds.

You don't exactly lug around PX100's. They fold up and will easily fit in a shirt pocket. Nothing at all like a pair of AD700's. I also would suggest these for portable use. You might also look at Porta Pros.

I use the PK3 with my Zune. Really nice, detailed, airy sound which works well with acoustic/classical but is really lacking in impact for electric/rock music. I hear the PK2 have less bass than the PK3 which are bass-light IMO.

Second PX 100

Hi,

I go all the way back to the 30G 1st generation ZUNE and now have a 120G as well (I know...glutton for punishment). I have tried both buds and in ear (I agree uncomfortable for me anyway). The PX 100 just sounds great with the ZUNE. They also fold up to tuck away in a pocket or briefcase when not in use.

If you have an ebay account, you can get stuff from Head-Direct that way. Their seller ID is head-director, IIRC. Got my RE0's from there, and they ship pretty quick (I think their description said they're in New Jersey or somewhere out that way).

For an excellent earbud that will let you hear outside sounds, the Senn MX-760 is excellent. It is still sort of laid back like alot of Senn phones, but they have a bit more impact than most Sennheisers.

An around-the-back street-style portable that has great impact is the iGrado -- nothing laid back about it!

Maybe I'm totally out of it, but my Zune 80 came with the "premium" headphones in the package. To be completely honest, I wasn't too terribly disappointed with them. They were far better than the new buds that are sent with the Zune HD.

Get the Yuin PK2 and skip the FOTM RE0.
