Not to sound annoying or anything but I still need a little help deciding between pro 750 pro 900 or HFI 780
post #32 of 43
Whats your current source/amp/dac and total budget?

Well I really wanted to keep it at or under 400 but of it's worth it I'll go over. I'll e using em on my iPod touh and iPhone 3gs And laptop. I want planning on getting an amp fr a some time though (I also don't mind the fast I'll have the adaptor for the 3.55 Jack sticking out the back end of my iPod ) I guess I'll use em on our stereo once in a while but I wasn't really planning on it, these are cans more for being out and at swim meets and places.

Well there pretty big on the head, I wouldn't walk around with them on. For portable I'd suggest IEMs, so much easier to power directly from an MP3 player and easy to stick in the pocket.

For a good Ultrasone setup I'd suggest getting an amp/DAC like the Zero for $100-$150 used depending on upgrades and a HFI-780 for a killer setup. The Pro-900 for the same price of the 780+amp/DAC would be completely lacking in comparison.

K. Inwas planning on getting some IEMs after I get new cans as an upgrade from
my Bose. And believe the size doesn't bother me at all.ost of the time, though in public, I won't be walkig around with them but sitting, but Rhys me
taking things
really literall. Thanks for the advie on the amp too

I know it's obvious, but IEMs are MUCH better in terms of isolation than full-sized phones, especially if you're listening on public transport.

...this may be so. I'm getting some later so I'll achieve that isolation later...but I am currently looking at cans: Pro750, HFI 780, HFI 680

sooooo....yea

Alright so It's pretty much just about finished, Ive done some sole research and Im between the HFI 780s and Pro 750s, I'm leaning toward the 780s mainly because of price, and also cause its terminated with 3.55mm plate vs the 6.5 (which comes with a 3.55 adaptor but that's just gonna be annoying).

I'm giving this thread a day or two more. If you feel I'm making the wrong decision with the Ultrasones let me know, and it'd be cool to hear your input on which Ultra is better (of the two I listed)
Yeah...the 780 terminates in a smaller plug...but the cable is longer. Unless you plan on recabling, you're stuck with a headphone that has a 3 meter cable... not exactly portable friendly.
The Pro 750 has a shorter coiled cable, but you can get an ipod cable for $15 for all Ultrasones that have a screw in cable like the 750 Pro.

Ok well as of right now, I am going to go and buy the Pro 750s, and get an ipod cable. (hopefully I can listen to them before I buy em)

IF anyone wants to sway me away...I'd rather you didn't unless you think your option is SOOO much better

(so yea they're for trance and electronic music and rock, at home and on the go with a laptop, and ipod, good overall sound, great bass, looks good would be nice but not too big a deal, and not built cheaply)

If nobody says anything then Im gonna try to go get em or order them next week.

Thanks for all the help/input everyone

Someone got the Pro 900 for 320$ at buy.com but the last sample. It´s a nice improvement over the 750 in all except for the bass quantity in stock which is a bit much for me.
That's a good price for the Pro 900. I got my Pro 750 for $230.
