Im interested in getting a pair of Grado R1 since i heard they were the best headphone i could get without use of an amp. I know that the Grado comes out of Brooklyn so I was hoping that I might be able to find a good price since I live in NYC, any suggestions are greatly appreciated!!

Grado Labs have an agreement that their vendors can not sale their new headphones for less than MSRP. There are a few exceptions that I've seen, if headphones are discounted models, if headphones are B-Stock (Headphone.com) or demos-returns, etc. (Audioadvisor.com). I have checked websites at this time-unfortunately nothing offered at this time. You may take a trip to J&R's Music World-if they have a demo pair for customer listening you may make an offer to them to buy the demo pair (it never hurts to ask). Good Luck and Happy Listening.

B&H had an older version of the RS1s at a significant discount, but think these are gone. As suggested before, Grado has strict agreements with their retailers. I have only seen older models or demos, as mentioned, go for less.

Simply not true! You can get a discount on brand new Grados from authorized dealers but they are not allowed to advertise below MSRP. Just call any of them and ask what their best price is. I've never paid full retail for new Grados.

J&R offered me $20 off the RS1i. I laughed. I'm sure you did better than that, but after that, I gave up trying to get too much off these headphoes from retailers.

OP, I would call HeadRoom. Also, some people buy the RS1 and don't really like it or think it's worth the price and then put them up for sale in mint condition for a real discount off MSRP. So you might want to monitor the for-sale forums and audiogon etc if you are looking to save some money. Of course, that might take some time.

Thanks for the help guys, I guess my best chance is to just call around. Ill try calling Jr and Bh and see what they say. Just thought I might be able to get a better price since Grado is located in Brooklyn...

For new: Contact TTVJ to get the "real price".

For used (but in pristine, like new condition), you simply will not ever be able to beat the prices here at Head-Fi in the for sale forum. This (IMO) is the best way to go.

Definitely used on the FS forums is the best way to go.

A RS-1i just sold for $399 here in the forums. Besides being gifted, which I have seen a generous member do before, I don't think I've seen that low of a price on RS-1's ever!
