Aussie M³ Kit group buy IC (RE-POST) Offer Closes 12th Oct

I apologise for the delay in getting this thread up and going again, I wanted to clarify a few requirements needed to make this group buy effective and worth the effort.

The kits will be supplied by Glass Jar Audio, the fact that Jeff packs the kits individually, is extremely cost effective and great to deal with makes the choice simple.

Cost saving depends on two things numbers and consistency of parts within each kit. Adding various parts at the bottom is fine, it’s much harder when people change the BOM because they have a pile of spare parts they want to use up. Jeff pre bags the kits and it’s tough if he needs to pull out or skip parts on some bags and not on others.

If you don't want bass boost it’s fine to forgo those parts to simplify or save cost.

The kit includes all the components needed to build one M³ board only.

For those that would like a σ11 single-rail regulated power supply there is now a BOM attached.

If you’d like to participate please post back in this thread first (if you need more than 1 kit please state how many), fill out the attached BOM/S (they are in USD) and email it me johnwilliammclean@bigpond.com

Please include also your
1) your username
2) and contact/address details
All information received will be kept in in strictest confidence.

Upon completion and closing of the group buy I will submit to Jeff for a final quote. I would then ask for up front payment, before committing to the final purchase.

Payment options:
1) Direct deposit (preferred)
2) Paypal

For the record this is a not-to-profit venture. Please let me know if there’s anything I’ve missed or have any ideas that can improve the process, keep a watch out for updates in this header.

Cheers
John

See my edit above.

hmmmmmm interested in a balanced build, but need to do costings; it also depends on when, as my wallet still needs to recover from recent purchases

I'm keen for both M3 and σ11 . I've already purchased both boards and a few other parts but I think I'll just get a complete kit for both.

Good idea going with Jeff, his prices are fantastic.

What are you doing for a case? I noticed that you don't have that option...

Row 59 in John's excel BOM. The Hammond 1455T2201.

I saw that but he has 0 selected. I'm curious as to whether the intent is to use that case or whether its just intended as a boards buy only...

I figure since they're under the options column they're optional... i.e. you can get it if you want, otherwise don't worry about it.

hey john would it be possible for you to just send me 2 of the cases? looks as if the bank is not liking the M3 atm.

They are options not included in the kit, feel free to add any options. I only ask that the rest of the BOM is left as is.

Not a problem.

Will do Nick!

UPDATE
There is now a BOM attached for σ11 kits.

John upon thinking about it more and consulting my parents I'm very interested.

I've a few questions that have popped up since my last PM:
  • Can it be built with enough juice so I have the option to switch to speaker output (without degrading sound)? (See AMBs page under the options subheading to read about specs needed for it to 'qualify' as a speaker amp).
  • Can the sigma accommodate a second M3 board if I wish to add one for balanced (way) down the track?
  • My laptop requires a fan on it most of the time, may be a faulty unit but I'm guessing it's the Cairns whether. Will the amp be able to withstand the Cairns heat? (and I guess more importantly what can I/We do to 'heat-proof' it?)
Very excited,
Matt.

mattcalf, σ11 is a great choice for speakers (depending on sensitivity), the σ11 will accommodate 2 boards. The M³ does not get overly hot from memory using headphones only, you could use bigger heatsinks to help with dissipation if using speakers.

Ok, sounds sweet and cheers for the quick reply. Keep us updated.
