Albums of the Decade (Uncut Magazine version)

This month's Uncut lists their 150 albums of the decade, and in my view while the overall list isn't bad, the top ten is not that great:

1) White Stripes, White Blood Cells
2) Bob Dylan, Love and Theft
3) Wilco, A Ghost is Born (with Yankee Hotel Foxtrot at 35 and Sky Blue Sky at 138)
4) Brian Wilson, Smile
5) The Strokes, This Is It
6) Robert Plant and Alison Krauss, Raising Sand
7) Arcade Fire, Funeral
8) Bob Dylan, Modern Times
9) Ryan Adams, Heartbreaker (with Gold at 38)
10) Fleet Foxes, Fleet Foxes

Radiohead had In Rainbows at 15, Kid A at 25 and Hail To The Thief at 134, while White Stripes albums managed to account for a ludicrous 30th of the entire chart. I mean: I like The White Stripes, but placing that much prominence on them seems absurd. (Uh, and both Raconteurs albums charted as well!)

Holy crap, what a terrible Top 10... Funeral is the only one deserving there. The other ones don't even deserve to be Top 50...

theres a solid three months of the decade left. these early lists are silly.

Proper assessments of any period tend to come many years later. It's like when people are asked to name the greatest film of all time and say something that was a big hit last year just because it's fresh in their mind.

Still, that's no reason not to have fun with these lists ... they're only points of departure for a discussion, not a serious authority on contemporary music.

i know. i just dont understand why all these publications cant wait a few more months.

i mean, what if Radiohead puts something out on December 31st?

Radiohead say they are not making albums anymore, and did anyone else know Thom Yorke has a new band with Flea from RHCP.

I'm sure there's a push to get these kind of lists out before other publications do. Also, they take a while to prepare, so if they waited until all the releases were in, they wouldn't get the list out until well into next year, when interest in these decade wrap-ups has died down. And that's not much evaluation time anyway, so something newer wouldn't get a fair shot even if they did delay things, and the list would probably change very little.

'twas a joke since everyone and their great gramma has a happy place in their pants for them.

yup.

That really seems like a list from a magazine trying to be "unpredictable" or something similar. Really a trash top ten. Some of those albums couldn't even be considered that artists best album this decade. Also, The Strokes? Really?

I am pleased to see Bob Dylan double chart the top ten. very deserving

Funeral is an extremely solid contender for top ten of various time periods though most of the others do not strike me as true great records

Smile I am sure is great but I haven't given more than half a listen, just not in the mood these past years.

I am so behind the times...I've only heard one of those albums.
which one?

Fleet Foxes, though I have heard singles off of White Blood Cells.
