I love Les Pauls, Epiphone or Gibson, it makes no difference to me. While I also play Strats, Turners, and a couple Ibanez, I always go back to the "Big Dogs". cool.gif

I love Les Pauls. They're the only solid body guitars I like except a classic flying v.

That being said I actually returned it and picked up a hollow body Ibanez instead. No need for an amp yet because I can't play worth a damn right now, and this has as much sound as an acoustic.

Hollowbodies have always kind of been my first love anyway. Already picked an upgrade to graduate too once I deem my playing worthy...Epiphone Casino.

Edit: I've been wanting to get back into it for years. Now that I am I'm practicing an hour or so a day. I could see myself starting a collection soon enough. Lol.

While on my trip I got Dark Side of The Moon on 180g, and Iron Maiden by Iron Maiden (Limited edition picture disc heavyweight). Pics up when I open them tomorrow!

Alvarez AJ418C/12. Solid spruce top, spalted maple back and sides.

Man that's a pretty guitar!

How does she sound? I'm assuming the spruce top and maple sides would be a bit brighter than mahogany or rosewood.

I'm looking at an acoustic guitar soon too and am wondering what you guys would suggest. I'm mainly looking at Martin

I'd rather not go electro acoustic.

The sound is pretty bright, but it has plenty of bottom end, since it's a full size dreadnaught.

Martins are nice guitars, but the best advice is to play as many guitars as you can, in your price range, and pick the one that works best for you. Be sure and check out used guitars - you can get some good deals on gently used acoustic guitars, and either save yourself a bunch of money, or wind up with a much better guitar for your budget.

Some good pointers here on buying a used guitar:

I really enjoy my Martin. Still it's 100 percent mahogany, so has a more reserved and almost dull sound. I just purchased a spruce top acoustic and find that I like having the two as complimentary.
I started playing guitar around 1978 and am still amazed at how different each guitar can be. It's a leaning experience to find out just how many different woods they use in guitar production. That and the shape differences can result in some endless variations of tone and personality. I have had so many different guitars over the years though the only one I have ended up missing was my 79 Les Paul Standard.

I learned that guitars are like women, if you find an amazing one, hold on to it.
