I prefer the sound of T51 to Studio V. At least that is on my iem but I can't say for sure regarding dynamic iems. The output impedance of the Studio V might be very high and cause all sort of problems to armature iems. Hisound chose a cheap way to increase the impedance of the iem through the use of impedance cable which will certainly degrade the SQ and reduces the dynamics.

The T51 is a better designed device overall specially targeted at audio but failed at their QC as well as product usability.

Each has their own critical flaws. Can't really say which is better.

Just a technical note. I forgot what the output impedance is but I believe it was measured around 1.5. An adapter just effectively raises it. The adapter lowers the efficiency to eliminate hiss with IEMs above 110 or so efficiency and that can degrade things with some IEMs but not with others. It's not for impedance matching as the IEM also sees it as part of the source impedance. I also don't use them but by lowering the Q, their results are variable. Helps an Ety 4p for instance. Bad for my GR10s. If the studio is like the RoCoo, I agree that the stock hiss level will be too high for certain IEMs. It can also be lowered a few DB with the BA FW but that may still not be enough for some. I just checked you profile and I can definitely see those ES5s not synergizing with that noise level or added resistance. I'm also not saying that this is why you didn't prefer it as it very well may just not sound as good to you with another iem either.

p.s. Those Aktimates sure are great toys to have about.bigsmile_face.gif

PS : I will watch for your feedback and I'm happy for you of course :)

I hate you more,I need you to promise us:

1-Video

2-Lots of pics, and I mean lots

3-the longest review in headfi history

Then I might change my mind ;)

Lol I don't think I will be doing a video. Kinda hard to figure out how to do a review but I'll figure it out. Did one a long time ago; I'll wing it.

Wonder when it will ship though. And still debating as you are on what customs to get as well...

SA-43?, SE 5 Way, Unique Melody Merlin, Miracle. Unique melody seems like the more affordable route. Hmm...

I am drowning Lee730 in a quicksand, i can't just make my mind. I checked the Heir, but I always feel more into Um Merlin and JH16.

Unique melody, interesting but not convinced, price is not my problem, I just can't decide, I like mids and bass more then anything else, and instrument separation is more important than clarity.

Well I am also looking into price range. While the SE 5 way sounds like the end all at $1,500.00 is it worth it lol? That is an extra $600.00 over the Miracle... I'll pass on JH. From reading from the reviews it may be a bit aggressive for my tastes. Very nice designs though. I'm still heavily leaning towards the Starkeys because the excellent build (although not the hottest chick on the block). Its sound signature is very detailed while being a bit on the darker side, So it should pair well with my Studio V and hopefully DX100... Oh man. rolleyes.gif

Yeh,yeh, we got it, I was expecting that you might get the DX100, but surprised that you where able with the 40 batch, and although i knew that and I post it (out of stock remark!) so back to square one.....dum dum dum.....Oscar Peterson...

Seems they will be offering headfiers a discount price as well in the next batch. Still most likely not as much as the first 40 units. Anyways Turotoks what IEMs do you use with your T51? Just curious from a synergy stand point.

TF10, Westone 4 and sony Ex1000 (my Girl IEM), depends on the music I want to listen to. But I always  prefer the TF10.

ie2han loves the EX1000s on the Studio V. He finds it to take them to a whole new level of transparency. I'm not sure how the TF10 would pair though. I probably won't have my pair back from Custom reshelling for a month if not less...

What qualities are you looking for in a DAP and any preference in the sound signature? Are you after neutrality. Lots of clarity in the top end?

But you will have the Ibasso in max by 2 weeks?

I prefer it neutral as a whole, with some mids.....no treble emphasis please:) clarity is nice, instrument separation is my top cherry!!

Warm sound signature with some/full midrange and bass

For any reason, it is not the hiss or noise that makes me dislike the Studio V.

On armature iem it sounds lean and bright.

On dynamics iem it sounds full.

You can figure out the rest of the technicalities.

ES5 is never a lean and bright sounding iem.

Yeah I bet you the impedance is messing up the crossovers on your customs. That is one reason I was hesitant to get the V. But when reading good reviews with dynamics and the fact that I mainly use dynamics I decided to take a risk. It was well worth it IMO. I kinda wish though that my FX700s would pair better with it. I think its the super clean treble and combined with the FX700s treble that offsets things and makes the detail a bit irritating.

That is my guess too. From reports that I read it is always the output impedance that causes this sort of problems for armature iems.
