My Cowon came back from the dead ..

I kid you not - my iA7 completely refused to show any sign of life despite my trying different cables etc. That was a week or so ago, and now its acting as though none of this ever happened - merrily charging and taking new files. 'Exciting' is one word - the others arent suitable for a family-oriented forum like Head-Fi.

I've had a couple of PMs from folk wanting to buy the beastly thing : at this stage, I'm going to play its silly games, but I thank you for your enquiries. (still the best amp I've heard in any DAC, including the Sony X-Series, which is probably the best all-rounder I've ever owned.).

I dont get it. U meant it just decided to reborn after been dead for a while? LOL

Anyway, iA7 > sony X in term of SQ?

Yeah- it came back, but its not the same

After a week with the Sony, going back to the Cowon was like seeing an old friend and thinking 'Man, I thought she was a lot cuter at 16 !'. Probably as much about the way we acclimatise to a given sound as anything, but going back to the Cowon was tough - the Sony is clearly a better player in terms of SQ, and the sound doesnt seem to degrade as quickly with an increase in volume as it does on the Cowon.

That said, I paid about AUD 160 for the Cowon and 640 for the Sony - do the math.

(I would have spent at least the same on an iPod Classic (AUD 330) with a decent portable amp, so I view the Sony as a good choice regardless of price, and I dont need to carry an amp/interconnects).

Do you mean sony X has a bigger power than iPod classic? but isn't that a flash storage type? I always hear about HDD audio players have more power than NAND flash ones.
