Just for kicks I replaced the internal rewiring with 24 awg silver, there's a little improvement when everything else is kept the same (ie detachable connector), but I think more improvement is gained from hardwiring, even if you retain the stock internal wires and hardwire thicker wire to it. I'm enjoying the 70 cent/foot canare microphone cable atm
