What should I buy?

I'm looking to buy a new pair of headphones. I was looking at Skullcandy (because I like the way that they look) but I've read alot of bad reviews about them like bad bass and snapping in half. I normally listen to techno, happy hardcore, electronica, house, etc. I'm looking to spend around $50 but I'll go a little higher than that. I'm just looking for a decent pair of headphones that will work good with my type of music that I listen to.
Recommendations?

Oh and maybe ones that aren't huge so that I can bring them around with me, like on plane trips.
And looking for more like closed headphones.

AND I have searched but haven't really come up with much. Must fail at searching.

I've been looking at AKG k81dj (saw them in a thread) and the only bad thing I get is that they are tight on the head?

Go for DENON AH-D1001K!

That's a little more than what I'm looking to pay.
The AKG's seem nice but I don't really need and 8 foot long cord

Judging by the fact that you mention usage on planes, I would recommend looking into some in-ear monitors (IEMs). They tend to have better isolation than closed headphones if you know what to look for.

Well I don't necessarily need them for plane trips, since that's a rare occasion.
I need them more for around the house while on the computer and in the car.

Well in the $50 price range, a modded JVC HA-RX900 would probably do the trick. Can't really think of any other headphones that would come close to it for that much.

Re: What should I buy?

I'm biased for AKG's, because I've never had any problems with any of my AKG's in my 12 years of using them - I've dropped them, stepped on them, ran over the cords a million times with my computer chair, and they've always been comfortable... I even go to sleep with them on sometimes.

The problem is that in your price range, most of the 66's to 99's that fit it, don't have the bass you'd be looking for.

But give the K81 DJ's a try. They get good reviews for noise cut-out, and that they don't lack the bass. I saw them here at Amazon for $55.96, and there are 31 customer reviews there on them, positive in terms of what you're looking for.

I guess it's true, IEMs can reduce more noise than big headphones, but less surrounding effect and bass also make it a hard choice. Otherwise, you may feel pain with IEMs like Etymotic .

If I weren't so picky I think that's what I'd go for, but the cord is 8 feet long which I really don't need.

Anyone know anything about the Sony Extra Bass Over-the-Ear Headphones?
