Instead of masking the HF, just slice off a thin layer from the contact surface of the jumbo bowls cutting back slightly on the ear/driver distance. The sibilance will be tapered off without losing the treble energy. I did this with my GS1ks and it tamed the high end without losing sound stage or head room.
How did you cut a thin slice off without screwing it up?

The do sound a little better, flatter. Will they stay flat?

Oh... I remember pic's of that. It got mangled. Aesthetically, at least. (I have no doubt about the sound improvements that Bilavideo asserted, though.) I wonder if there is a way to cut approx. 1 cm off the rim, evenly?

I did a somewhat haphazard job of cutting my G-Cush pads being in a little too much of a hurry to test the hypothesis that the legendary GS1k sibilance was just an overkill of ear/driver distance. I've conversed with posters who cut homemade pads with exacto knives and other at-home tools with better results.

But the sound differences held their own despite my lazy aesthetics.

Thread Starter
I have been using the HF2 with jumbo pad that have been shaved about 5mm of the cushion with a box cutter with great result. I think it's better Idea than my mod in my 1st post lol...

A steady hand and a very sharp box cutter is needed for this job. Take your time when cutting the foam...

can anyone post some pics on this? I'm very interested.
Would there be problems fitting on the salad bowls on the driver after shaving off some foam? What exactly are the sonic differences and how is it now compared to the original pads that came with?

cheers.

Why not do a search for bilavideo´s cushion modding thread?
