Headphone Girls (Headphones + Art + Advertising)

Wasn't sure where to post this so I figured it was safest here. If a moderator wants to move it for more visibility, then yay!

At any rate, I saw this on Dannychoo.com. Apparently a bunch of Japanese headphone makers (I see Sony and Audio Technica) commissioned or collaborated with some manga artists to come up with a very interesting advertisment book.

I enjoy heaphones and the artwork so here is Danny's post on his website:

Yes, bizarre.

When I read the thread topic, I was expecting headphone girls as in like racing girls or what you call them, i.e. leggy models used to promote headphones at exhibitions etc.

I would have been happy with that, too.

Not bizarre - we've seen this before.

I know a lot of folks are into anime and manga, but I can't stomach it. Since it is so popular, it would definitely make a good advertising vehicle.

Really nice looking illustrations!
If it helps selling products I do not see any problems with them using anime girls in the advertisements.

I'm not particularly fond of it either. cutesy little girl faces on women's bodies don't do much for me. I have to admit though that the drawings are very well done.

Don't think the "we" is too royal. There have been a few threads in this and the headphone forum over time, so quite a few of us have seen these pics and others more than a few times.

As a woman, I have a lot of uncomfortable thoughts and feelings about sexualized pubescent girls put on display, even in cartoon form, for the selling of anything. What I think is truly bizarre is the mentality of guys who find themselves attracted to them.

Ah, understood.

mmhmm. The whole fascination over anime is a bit odd to me. When people started collecting it in the US back in the late 80s and early 90s there was a certain sense of cultural novelty about it. Well that and seeing adult themes of violence and sexuality played out in cartoons. It seems to have saturated all forms of Western media now though, and the novelty has worn off for me. Too quirky... the characters are always very stilted and the plots never make much sense. Like you, the pubescent sexualization has always really bugged me.
Meh... I don't know. At 33 maybe I'm just not the target audience anymore.

In any case, these pictures have been shown here plenty of times. There was even a download link to archive with scans from such magazine somewhere.

facepalm. Are you watching hentai? I've watched lots of anime/manga and virtually no sexualization at all. Pokemon & digimon are both anime and that's shown during kids TV.

Comparing hentai to anime is like comparing drama to micheal bay movies.
