If you have to move your rig around, look for a compact solid state desktop that you can put in a backpack and plug in. Something like the EC/SS or one of the Meier Corda amps would work. They're not pocketable, however, they're small enough to take with you in a bag, briefcase or backpack.

If you get a hit of the desktop crack after you buy a portable, you'll probably end up buying a desktop. The HD-800 demands the best and it really pays off.

hd 800 hd 800, well i hear it lacks in the bass department, and arent they open, plus rediculous, bulk, gawdy and no leather pads?
--none of these super cans would be good for port, but if i had to pick one sight unheard, i would go for the edition 8, which i believe are closed and fold up and look awesome,, anyone know if the edition 9 are closed or open?
the 9 dosent look as portable or def as noise isolating as the 8.

---dod they meijer corda best the headroom desktop amp dacs,,
whats a better headamp than the desktop amp dac for 999
and preferably a cheaper one

But I would say LISA III, very good amp, if you want portable one, go for it.

And I enjoy it with my AKG701 very much, at least 60% potential of 701 I suppose??
I can hardly believe there would be another answer than the Lisa lll. It is the only portable amp that could come close to driving the HD800 imo. I even use it at home often with its external power supply when i am doing short listens and don't want to warm up the tubes on the Zana Duex. Seek out a Lisa and your search will be done.

Is this a joke, hd800's from an ipod o_O

BTW dallan the pico/DAC drives the hd650s very well from a laptop or a DAP, maybe not as good as my desktop amp, but more than enough power to drive 300 Ω phones to a very enjoyable level, so yes there are other answers than the Lisa lll.

is the lisa three better than the rsa predator,, how much bass does it have more or less than prdator?
how do these compare to the pic dac amp, i would say also compare the desktop but i assume thats in adifferent leauge considering how large even the portable is. it is no pocket amp..

the predator's dac is 16 bit, how much is the lisa3(if she has one) and the pico,,, o rmeijer corda? i also read of the amphora from alo i think.

awesome gear man, you have good taste. do you think your lisa is way better than you hornet and my predator, the pred left me wanting more bass, and its dac is only 16 bit, it dosent sound as good as with an optical spdif.
---currently i use the audio technica ha25d amp/dac, it actually burned in very nicely, and it powers all my phones pretty good, better in fact than the predator, which was a huge surprise to me, crisper cuz of its optical spdif and more bass, indeed i wanted even more bass than the ha25d
the predator cant properly power my denon 7000, requiers more bass,,,, would the lisa fit the bill?
thanks

I'll go thru these one at a time i guess.

I have a pico amp only and a pico dac only and love them both but to drive the 800s-no way. The Lisa lll on the other hand compares to a desktop or is a desktop in a way. It also has a separate power supply the LLP to help out. It's noise floor is silent too, with the music coming up out of the dead silence, pretty amazing.

Lisa lll has no dac, I actually use it with my laptop out and about thru a pico dac only. I believe it is really in a different league than the pico or predator but, and a big but, it is much bigger. It can fit in a coat pocket or maybe in your back pocket of jeans but you need kinda a different setup, with the ipod i use an ALO LOD harness, I'll see if i have a pict.
Okay this is the original one.

Okay here is the new one with the Power supply.

As you can see there is a bass setting but I rarely turn it past 11 o'clock.

Thank you for the complement, just trying to get everything to sound good and after Canjam I did some upgrading too, some of my stuff sounded flat after hearing things there. If you think head-fi is expensive, don't go to any big meets.

I have never heard the ha25d but i will keep my eyes open to try to audition one in my travels.

Out of the small portables on the market, the Meier 3MOVE does a decent job with the HD800 and can swing +/- 9V (or 12v with AC adapter in high current mode). My ALO Amphora also does well with the HD800, but it is too big to really be portable (like LISA which I haven't heard). Both have noticeably more power than the Predator or D10 with the HD800, and while the Pico has more power than the Predator and D10 with HD800 it still isn't enough.

The 3MOVE DAC is on par with or slightly better than the Predator DAC, but still not to the level of the Pico USB DAC or D10 via optical which are better.

is the pico/dac 16 bit or 24 bit? my predator cant fully amp my denon 7000 and it is a 16 bit dac, my other audio technica ha25 d opticl spdif dac sound alot better and has surprisngly alot more bass yet it costs more than twice less,
.... will the lisa do a better job, or should i just drop a g on a desktop......
there has to be a small amp that has big full headamp power....
--what competes with the lisa 3?

wow that lisa looks stellar, and a bass knob, i am sold, but i do need a dac,
what competes with the lisa that has a dac, or i suppose i could use my at ha25 d as a preamp? sometimes i use my pioneer dir800c bass reciever as a preamp to the audio technica, but there is suttle background noise, cuz i go in optical to reciever and out its front head jack via y splitter to input on aduio technica,,, my few gripes with the ha25 d is no eq, bass or treble knob, and also for some reason my stupid xbox doesnt get sound through its optical input. i wonder why that is,, i cant read the ha25d manual as it is all in japanese and was a special order, any suggestions to the lisa's "brother" amp/dac would be greatly apprecitated..

p.s. what type lod were those, they look top line, and i see you rock the hornet,, how would you compare that to the predator,, iread alot of good things of that hornet,, how does their bass compare?

lisa sure is sexy

thanks that helps alot,,
also is your amphora a dac ? no

so which has more power the 3 move or the pico,

and u said the 3 move did a decsent job with the hd800, what about some denon 7000's, i was disapointed of the lack of bass into my denon 7000 via predator...
and more power the lisa or the amphora or the pico?
so it sounds like the pico maybe a 24 bit DAC hopefully?
im thinking lisa or pico but power is a must
thanks

Amphora has no DAC. 3MOVE is very good with D7000, with more power than most of my other portable amps including the Pico. The Pico DAC is a 16/48 DAC, that upsamples to 24/96. I am using the Pico DAC-only with my Amphora and other small amps that don't have a DAC.
