The general movie discussion thread

Maybe we need a place to discuss movies in general?

Rate the last movie thread as someone mentioned doesn´t really encourage to much discussion and limits you to the last movie you seen. If you don´t want to go off topic and feel like you are spamming.

This is for past present and future movies and everything related in any way.

But okay how many movies on the imdb top list have you seen?

Let's discuss Woody Allen. He's one of the greatest film makers of all time IMO. Anyone else a fan of him?

I like him as a person, think he's a sound guy but his movies have always bored me; Vicky Cristina Barcelona, Match Point, Melinda and Melinda... Scarlett Johansson is HOT though!

A few of my favorite directors would include; Steven Spielberg, Ron Howard, Pierre Morel, M. Night Shyamalan

That is a legitmate thought. Most people don't like Woody movies. Only a few people are big time fans. He is not popular in the U.S at all. It seems that the only people who really love him are insiders in the entertainment industry and people of France and Spain.

I like the thread idea, but I'm afraid it'll get out of hand, or too random...

But aside from that, I just watched Iron Man (for the first time, since I never got around to it). First time seeing Robert Downey, Jr. Now I get all the accolades...Jon Favreau's pretty good. Just the right amount of action, not Michael Bay insane. Shudder...

This seems to be true with people 30 and under ... today in the U.S.. He seems to have fallen from favor with people who only knew of him after the Soon Yi scandal. Actually, he is of the great comedians of all-time and his films were wildly popular in the U.S. and remained so until the mid-90s. "Annie Hall" won the Oscar for best film and it's still a great movie. Comedy today has gone low-brow compared to the stuff Allen puts out. But I can see why he's not as popular today, since he's not doing his wild slapstick stuff anymore. But I think films as recent as Sweet and Lowdown are fantastic. I love his sense of humor. It's absurdist stuff which draws from the Marx Brothers, who I also idolize.

Spareribs, another Woody fan here. I got started at a very young age - being fed Sleeper and other classics by my aunt and uncle in my pre-teen years. His later films have been hit-or-miss, but Woody hits home runs when he connects. I also greatly admire his work ethic - few film makers have that level of output, not to mention quality.

Unfortunately, my work schedule cuts deeply into my movie viewing. I only get to see them once or twice a month these days. In high school, I spent three years selling tickets at the local theater (I loved that job) and got to see everything released for free. They even let me bring in friends for free and my family got free movies even when I wasn't there. Like I said, it was a great job.

I'd also been a regular renter - usually taking in 7-10 films per week. A small claim to fame was that I grew up in Manhattan Beach and rented from Video Archives. Trivia buffs will know that's where Quentin Tarentino got his start; I grew up renting movies from him. He sort of freaked me out, though I am a fan.

I also spent a few years in a very rural town, where my only outlets were the video store and the BBC on shortwave.

Anyhow, I look forward to when I can get back into watching a film or two every day. I've seen most of the classics (love them), but have fallen behind on releases in the past six or seven years. But I intend to catch up.

I'm a fan. Can watch Annie Hall or Manhattan any day. I also enjoyed Play it Again Sam (which i dont think he directed). Small time crooks and manhattan murder mystery are also entertaining to me. I've seen Sleeper a while ago but dont really remember a whole lot of it. Will have to check it out again.

How about Stephen King movie adaptations?

I have always loved his books. Even though many of the movie adaptations don´t do any justice to the books whatsoever there is a lot to harvest.

1. The Shawshank Redemption
Totally earns it spot at imdbs top ranking
2. Stand By Me
3. Hearts in Atlantis
4. The Shining
5. Lida
6. Dolores Claiborne
7. The Green mile
8. Salem´s lot
9. langoliers
10. The Mist
