groups that deserve a box set and haven't gotten one yet

Ok so with the Beatles Box set releases and my current pick of box set done right "Big Star, Keep an Eye on The Sky", I was thinking about other artists that should get one that have not yet.

Three that occur right away are The Replacements, Husker Du and Sugar

Of the three the easiest would be the replacements since they just remastered their CDs last year. Put them in a box add some live tracks and done.

For Husker Du- they were great, they were on multiple labels, they are getting hard to find and there is a ton of unreleased stuff ( I think)

Sugar- Bob Mould 's second power pop band released a few albums and an ep and some singles- Box it all up and add a dozen or so live tracks and I'm there.

so who else?

Is there a Pink Floyd box-set?

How about 'our' other favorites:
Tool
Porcupine Tree
Radiohead
...
And of course any other good band with more than three good albums

Nine Inch Nails.

But it would cost a fortune.

Two of them, actually.

Not to go off track but there are really two types of box sets. One has the remasters of the albums, sometimes with extra stuff sometimes without. Then we have the love it or hate it type made with no past released albums only extras. How many bands deserve to release their past LPs but just gave us extras which in the end forced us to buy all the cds and the box set?

hes' had a couple including sound and vision.

as has pink floyd and some others. I'm open to either, but that's one of the great things about the big star. It's got both. It does help that they had a small output.

and i think the reverse could be true. I don't know what else they could release by Jeff Bucklely short of him tuning instruments in the studio.

REM would be a good candidate for a box that was "live, demos, and unreleased" with the best example of that being Bruce Springsteen's "Tracks" collection.

I also think that the Allman Brother Band sets "dreams" is a great overview box set

Richard D. James is due for a career, thus far, spanning retrospective. It could be massive or more selective with his huge catalog.

Funny, as I read the thread title I immediately thought of Sugar, but you beat me to it. I'm fortunate enough to own the limited edition live disc they released. Awesome stuff, and it'd make for a great addition to a box set. A touch of gentle remastering wouldn't go amiss on their albums as well.

I was also gonna mention Jellyfish, but I just checked & they actually have an 80-track box set from 2002 which I didn't know about. Result!

YES. I know Rhino released expanded & remastered versions of many of Yes' LPs in 2003, but I don't really consider that a box set.

funny you should mention these... i was just listening to Pleased to Meet Me this morning for the first time in about 5 years.

i would LOVE to see a Hüsker Dü box (possibly my favorite band of all time), as well as boxes from a number of other SST acts (Black Flag, Sonic Youth)... but my understanding is that Greg Ginn has been a bit of a dick about the master tapes, and it's next to impossible to get anything remastered, rereleased or repackaged.

another box i would snatch up in a second, mostly because their stuff seems to be out of print, and they deserve much more love than they got.

I'll also throw out:
  • Stereolab
  • Dead Kennedys
  • Television
  • Funkadelic/Parliament
