Sound I want: Grado with a soundstage!

Any speakers like this? I read that Klipsch has a similar sound to the Grado sound, which I love. I really want to explore a setup that has a great soundstage, so I decided that it would be best to move into the speaker world. I'm auditioning a pair of M-Audio DX4 right now, which is too monitor-like in presentation, and doesn't have quite enough soundstage for me. I'm open to modern recommendations, but I'd even prefer a vintage pair of speakers. Thanks.

GS1000 and PS1000 should do the trick. Say goodbye to the wallet.

What is your budget?

$250 absolute max if I really need to go there. Sub-$200 would be optimal, another reason I'd like to go vintage.

I'm not seeing that happen Lingling, unless you happen into a a serious deal. If you're hard up on that budget, set it aside and let it build while you keep an eye out on the forums, and local ads.

Best I could find new: Klipsch RB-51 Bookshelf Speakers - RB51

Not a bad deal imo. The Klipsch B2 can be had for $250 dollar, but the synergy series is not as good as the reference one. Amazon also has the Energy CB-20 for less than $200. I've read they are a bit on the bright side, but probably not as much as Klipsch. Still good speakers though.

Thanks for the rec, RicHSAD. Do the RB51 and CB20 both have good soundstage? I could swing the RB51 if they're that good.

Well, your results will vary depending depending on how you position the speakers and the room that you are in. I read the CB-20 have a bigger soundstage than the Energy RC-10, which are very popular speakers. This could be because of the bigger woofers. Reviews are scarce on them though, so I really have no idea how the CB-20 compare to the RB-51. One thing to keep in mind is that the RB-51 go deeper than the CB-20, so if you plan to use them without sub it is definitely something to consider. I really wouldn't worry too much about the soundstage as far as speaker goes.

How about some Grado equipped speakers?

20xRS1+Custom housing... that'll be a no-go.

Unless I can score some of those old Grado speakers on eBay, but even those run ~$600.

I have not heard of this- where did you get that info?

Also, HF2 is out of my price range+I don't really need more headphones.

Have you seen the MS-1000 threads? An actual Grado (well, Alessandro by Grado), with a soundstage that is apparently huge. Also, your budget should be more than enough.

I'm building a pair myself, waiting for two more shipments of stuff... =)
